Desmond Hatchett Fathers 21 Kids to 11 Women

Posted by phunkychic666 on May 31, 2009

A MAN who has fathered 21 children with 11 different women yesterday claimed that he was “done” having children. Desmond Hatchett’s extraordinary brood came to light after authorities in Tennessee took the 29-year-old to court for non-payment of child support.

Mr Hatchett has apparently set a US record but denied he had set out to claim a place in history. “It just happened,” he said.

Mr Hatchett said he would not have any more children. “I’m done. I’ll say I’m done,” he said, shaking his head.

Mr Hatchett told reporters outside court that he knew the names and ages of all his offspring. The ages ranged from newborn to 11 years old.

Authorities said they planned to take half of his monthly salary to pay for the youngsters. But with Mr Hatchett earning just the minimum wage, officials said that worked out to slightly more than $2 a week for each.

Totally outragious. This guy…

Bush Says He Won’t Criticize Obama, Then Lays Into Him

Posted by majestic on May 31, 2009

Former President George W. Bush, appearing Friday with his predecessor, Bill Clinton, in what turned out to be a collegial conversation rather than a spirited debate, once again said he would not criticize President Obama — then proceeded to do just that.

“International pressure — diplomacy only works if there’s leverage,” Mr. Bush said. “It sounds wonderful — ‘Let’s go talk to people’ — but you better have leverage in order to make diplomacy work.”

During his presidential campaign, Mr. Obama vowed to open dialogues with rulers of rogue nations, such as Iran and Cuba. After taking office, he lifted restrictions on visits to Cuba — a significant shift in U.S. policy. He also spoke amiably with Venezualan President Hugo Chavez, a vocal critic of the United States.

Asked whether he agreed with opening a dialogue with Cuba, Mr. Bush smiled and said to laughter, “Thank you for bringing up President Obama.”

“Holding that…

Wikipedia Blocks Scientology From Altering Entries

Posted by god on May 30, 2009

Wikipedia has blocked the Church of Scientology from editing entries at the communally-crafted online encyclopedia due to an unrelenting battle over the group’s image.

A “longstanding struggle” between admirers of Scientology and critics of the group prompted Wikipedia on Thursday to bar online edits from computer addresses “owned or operated by the Church of Scientology and its associates.”

An array of editors believed to have taken sides in a Scientology public-image war at Wikipedia have also been barred from tinkering with topics related to the church.

Douglas Rushkoff: Obama’s Internet Misfire

Posted by majestic on May 29, 2009

The president’s announcement Friday of a new czar to protect our cybersecurity misses the point, says Douglas Rushkoff. We need a generation of hand-to-hand digital soldiers, not armchair generals.

Neither President Obama’s announcement Friday of a new “cyber czar” nor the Pentagon’s simultaneous creation of a central “Cyber-Command” from which to defend our nation’s networks will be enough to bring us up to speed in a rapidly evolving global race for digital superiority. For while America is indeed falling behind in network security, the appointment of czar to manage yet another highly centralized, top-down extension of the administration only betrays our chronic, almost constitutional inability to engage in distributed warfare by distributed means.

Cyber security is not like protecting a cannon or some nuclear fissile material. The barbarians are not at the gates. They’re inside your PC right now, or just behind that banner ad—the fake one telling you there’s a spybot…

1987–1989: Head U.S. Consular Official Claims He’s Told to Issue Visas to Unqualified Applicants

Posted by kultra on May 29, 2009

Michael Springmann, head US consular official in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, later claims that during this period he is “repeatedly ordered … to issue
[more than 100] visas to unqualified applicants.”

He turns them down, but is repeatedly overruled by superiors. [BBC, 11/6/2001; St. Petersburg Times, 11/25/2001] In one case, two Pakistanis apply for visas to attend a trade show in the US, but they are unable to name the trade show or city in which it will be held.

When Springmann denies them a visa, he gets “an almost immediate call from a CIA case officer, hidden in the commercial section [of the consulate], that I should reverse myself and grant these guys a visa.”

Springmann refuses, but the decision is reversed by the chief of the consular section. Springmann realizes that even the ambassador, Walter Cutler, is aware of the situation, which becomes “more brazen and blatant” as time goes on. On one…

Sibel Edmonds: Project Expose MSM

Posted by kultra on May 29, 2009

We all have been tirelessly screaming about issues related to Congressional leaders abdicating their main responsibility of ‘oversight.’ We have been outraged for way too long at seeing ‘no’ accountability whatsoever in many known cases of extreme wrongdoing. I, and many of you, believe that the biggest reason for this was, and still is, the lack of true journalism and media coverage — which acts as the necessary pressure and catalyst for those spineless politicians on the Hill and in the Executive branch. Or, at least it’s supposed to. So, in our book, the MSM has been the main culprit.

Well, here is a chance to turn the tables.

At my new blog, 123 Real Change, I’m happy to present an experimental project, Project Expose MSM, to provide readers with specific mainstream media blackout and/or misinformation cases based on documented and credible first-hand experiences of legitimate and credible sources and whistleblowers.123 Real…

BART Police: Resist and We Will Kill You

Posted by hypnos1 on May 29, 2009

Officer Domenici is the one who, just after her colleague fatally shot Oscar Grant in the back, began trying to steal cellphones and cameras from bystanders. These video’s show Grant lying face down on the concrete. Domenici doesn’t explain how someone can resist orders while on their stomach with a policemans knee in their back.

SF Chronicle: “If they would have followed orders, this wouldn’t have happened,” said Officer Marysol Domenici.

Domenici said she did not see Mehserle shoot Grant because she had been facing the other direction. Immediately after the shot was fired, she said, some train riders were so angry that she started thinking about using her gun.

“I said to myself, ‘Oh, Jesus Christ, if I have to, I’m going to have to kill somebody,’ ” Domenici said.

Outside court, Grant’s mother, Wanda Johnson, said she was disturbed by Domenici’s testimony – particularly her assertion that she would not have done anything…

Errol Morris: Bamboozling Ourselves

Posted by BattyMcDougall on May 29, 2009

Why do people believe in imaginary returns, frauds and fakes?

Bernard Madoff, A.I.G., W.M.D.’s … How did this happen? Do we believe things because it is in our self-interest? Or is it because we can be manipulated by others? And, if so, under what circumstances?

Last year, two different books on that subject appeared within months of each other. Not only did both tackle the question of fakery, they were both about the same man: Han van Meegeren, arguably the most successful art forger of all time. Edward Dolnick’s “The Forger’s Spell” was released first (Edward Dolnick’s wife is on the board of The New York Times Company), followed by Jonathan Lopez’s “The Man Who Made Vermeers.” The titles provide a clue to the different goals of the authors — Dolnick’s interest in the nature of the trickery, the spell that Van Meegeren cast; Lopez’s interest in the nature of the man…

In Russia, Dogs Ride The Subway By Themselves

Posted by JacobSloan on May 29, 2009

A new trend from Russia: dogs riding the subway. Canines were apparently banned from Moscow’s metro during the Soviet era. However, today, much of the city’s large population of stray dogs rides the subway regularly, sitting calmly in empty seats, waiting in the station, and boarding and exiting at various stops. Additionally, “pooping in the metro is rare.”

It’s part of a broad array of sophisticated behaviors that dogs have had to adopt in order to survive in the urban setting. Generally well behaved and well liked by humans, Moscow’s stray mutts have also learned how to obey traffic lights (despite being colorblind) and panhandle for food.

FCC Claims Ability To Do Warrantless Raids

Posted by JacobSloan on May 29, 2009

Wired reports:

You may not know it, but if you have a wireless router, a cordless phone, baby monitor or cellphone in your house, the FCC claims the right to enter your home without a warrant at any time of the day or night in order to inspect it. The FCC claims it derives its warrantless search power from the Communications Act of 1934, though the constitutionality of the claim has gone untested in the courts. That’s largely because the FCC had little to do with average citizens for most of the last 75 years…But in 2009, nearly every household in the United States has multiple devices that use radio waves and fall under the FCC’s purview.

Refusing the FCC admittance can carry a harsh financial penalty. In a 2007 case, a Corpus Christi, Texas, man got a visit from the FCC’s direction-finders after rebroadcasting an AM radio station through a CB…

Maid Charged After Adding Menstrual Blood to Employer’s Food

Posted by phunkychic666 on May 29, 2009

An Indonesian maid has appeared in a Hong Kong court accused of adding menstrual blood to her employer’s food in an effort to improve their stormy relationship.

Indra Ningsih, aged 26, mixed the blood in a pot of vegetables in the belief that the recipe would help ease her difficult work environment, The Standard newspaper reported. In some southeast Asian cultures, menstrual blood is thought to have special powers, the paper added.

The maid has been charged with one count of “administering poison or other destructive or noxious substances with intent to injure” and has not yet entered a plea. The report cited a prosecution statement that said Ms Ningsih’s ingredient had been discovered after her female employer, surnamed Mok, peered through the kitchen door and saw the helper acting suspiciously.

She entered the kitchen and found the accused throwing something into the rubbish bin. When she checked the pot, she found a…

Hey Kids! Look It’s Mickey Mouse and Freakishly Lifelike Robot Obama!

Posted by ralph on May 29, 2009

JACQUES STEINBERG, NY Times: Barack Obama was standing on a riser inside a warehouse here, delivering an inspirational speech about the blessings of freedom, when his left index finger began to twitch uncontrollably, unnerving his aides.

The nation’s 44th president was in obvious distress. At least it looked like him. But with silicone skin and a tangled nest of wires for veins, this Obama was a 21st-century reproduction.

More specifically, it was an audio-animatronic representation of the president, as imagined by the Walt Disney Company, and assembled with the direct involvement of the White House staff — and of Mr. Obama himself. The president supplied not just his measurements, but he also recorded that speech (which was initially drafted by a Disney writer) — and yet another recitation of the oath of office, this one in Disney high-definition sound.

In that Hollywood building here, the life-size, three-dimensional figure was being put through its…
