Real Virtual Reality Eyeglasses?

Posted by moezilla on May 28, 2009

In Sunnyvale California, SBG Labs is developing eyeglass frames that house “holographic optics” to project an “augmented reality” directly into the wearer’s lenses!

“Light-emitting laser diodes in a tiny projector are stored in the side of the eyeglass frame,” shooting concentrated beams to lens surfaces with holographic grating to refract digital 3D images to the wearer’s eyes, notes a science writer, adding that this could eventually allow selecting a virtual reality overlay for the real world.

It could also project 3D GPS mapping (or Google Earth) into the wearer’s field of vision, as well as projecting personal HDTV and DVD playback directly into their lenses.

And there’s more. “Stand it on its end, and it projects digital media the size of a sheet of paper.”

He also speculates about the possibility that Apple will eventually market iShade, offering wireless web surfing while receiving images and music directly from your smart phone…
