Let us not forget waldoes, the robotic arms used in manufacturing. Term coined by Robert Heinlein. Maybe someone else can name the story and year.

Very good question, i expected that to be #1.
I was happy to be remonded of Liar!, which iread when i was quite young, and had no context for knowing was original.

the word robot was first used by Karel Capek, in R.U.R. in 1921…everything we(think we)know may be wrong, but that does not mean disinfo is right…

Why include Asimov's Robotics, and not Robot from Karel Čapek in his play R.U.R. (Rossum's Universal Robots)?
