I appreciate the posting of facts to counter prohibition rhetoric. Compassion dictates medical cannabis be legalized, sanity dictates relegalizing this safer recreational alternative to alcohol.

First of all, there is no scientific proof that cannabis kills brain cells. Now, alcohol does, and it is alcohol that you find in the hands of the most pathetic morons. Unlike marijuana, tobacco kills 400,000 people a year, and, like alcohol--which also kills 50,000 people in the U.S. each year--is both physiologically and psychologically addictive. And tobacco doesn't naturally contain nicotine, which is what makes it almost as difficult to quit as heroin, is purposefully added to our tobacco products to addict millions.

I must say, however, that I do agree that some people shouldn't do any drugs. And alcohol is a drug, and does cause massive brain-cell death. This is the legal drug that truly destroys both mind and body. But some people shouldn't do ANY drugs, period, because they can't afford to lose any brain cells or even short-term memory because they are utter idiots. Also, they give we intelligent users (not abusers) of a naturally occurring herb a bad image. Television does far more damage to the brains of children and minors than anything. And if someone can't figure out that legalizing, regulating, and taxing cannabis would benefit our country in many ways, and make it much harder for minors to obtain pot, they are obviously of low intelligence, or have an axe to grind.

In this instance, this individual was acting stupidly. On this point I agree with you.

However, you are misinformed about the affects of cannabis on brain cells. I would refer you to a few journal articles to get you started in your research. I am confident that if you review the scientific research into the subject you will find that your opinion is entirely unfounded.

I realize that it can be difficult to read and understand scientific journal articles for some people, but if you can't understand it, you probably shouldn't falsely represent your opinion as a fact.

In a study done at the Neuropsychiatry Research Unit at the University of Saskatchewan, researchers found that, “Cannabinoids promote embryonic and adult hippocampus neurogenesis...”

Source:"Cannabinoids promote embryonic and adult hippocampus neurogenesis and produce anxiolytic- and antidepressant-like effects." The Journal of Clinical Investigation 115(2005): 3104–3116 .

According to research done by the Department of Psychology at Ohio State University, activation of cannabinoid receptors in older mice improved their spatial memory

Source:"Cannabinoid receptor stimulation is anti-inflammatory and improves memory in old rats." Neurobiology of Aging (2007)

Those are just a couple of sources discussing the effect of cannabis on the brain.
Silly boy. Someone never asked him to refrain from expressing his/her opinion. Just that they did not find "Justsaynoer"'s opinion to very helpful or thought-out. Which is, incidentally, an opinion you are by your own command obligated to respect.

Also, you would do well not to presume some right to speak for America, or to marginalize people who are every bit as American as you are. It makes you seem very pompous and very ignorant.

Cheers!

Hey buddy, you should google cannabis' affect on brain cells before you start postulating things you don't even know about. The idea that saying marijuana breeds stupidity is like saying playgrounds breed pedophiles. Making such a subjective statement makes you seem very ignorant.

*snort* Moron. Probably high at the time, killing off all those brain cells. The world's already full of plenty of idiots like him that aren't high, God forbid that marijuana should be legalized and create a whole new breed of stupid. Starfucks, anyone?

But w/e, pretty funny story either way you look at it. I laughed.

Your homophobic comment doesn't make you sound very progressist.

Or, if it wasn't meant to be homophobic... why bother specifying who he might be picking food up for? Is that relevant here?

It just goes to show you that it is easier for people to get weed that it is alcohol. Now I know this guy was 32 but I believe it would be easier for a 6th grader to get weed than alcohol. The reason is because someone selling marijuana doesn't ask for ID. For the record I am tired of our government wasting our money keeping non-violent criminals in jail. Especially when marijuana is safer than aspirin and there is no record of anyone ever overdosing on it. Where as alcohol related deaths mount in the tens of thousands and tobacco related deaths range in the hundreds of thousands EVERY YEAR. End this prohibition and keep our kids safe from the playground dealer.
