There are some remedy’s but the state and the doctors wont prescribe them because they are used as street drugs and are “illegal” and demonized. BUT a form of speed and a light form of cocaine would and could help people like this lose weight. Drugs like this speed up your metabolism and take away your appetite. This is a huge fact. BUT the govts need to keep these drugs illegal because heaven forbid they actually help people..

The man WAS Christian. He determined to sit in the chair and pray til God healed him. He read scripture. He sat in that chair and prayed and defecated because he couldn't afford the $300 the doctors wanted him to pay up-front for the knee injury. He then went home, sat down, read the Bible and prayed.

I guess that's how God wanted him to die. Sitting in his own shit and staring at a useless old book. Nothing fails like prayer.

I'm thin and I would agree about not demonizing overweight people...(though I do NOT go along with those who claimth at obesity is not a health risk/problem...it is)

But I would make an even stronger moral case: even if part of it is NOT genetic, we still shouldn't just say "tough sh*t it's your fault" for the same reasons we shouldn't say it when someone smokes and then gets lung cancer. In reality it's a combination of a "Toxic food environment"and massive advertising, genetic weakness/susceptibility, and in some cases, also the person making bad choices (all of us do that sometimes)

Someone asked what was his wife doing? As I tried to allude to above, she was apparently not just sitting at home helping him but applied for disability..CBSnews:

"Ada Webb says she and her husband tried to get disability and insurance but could not and she says she didn’t know where else to turn. ""

It's insane..anyone anywhere NEAR 900 pounds is clearly going to be disabled especially if physically stuck to a chair like his condition...he should have been approved for disasbility (plus rehabilitation and exercise program and job training if necessary) back when he was 600 pounds, back when he was 500 pounds and maybe long before that...and the taxpayer would have gotten our money back if he had become healthy contributing to society instead of dying so young...not only we'd more than break even, it would also have been the right thing to do,morally...but the system is set up for tax breaks and perks for the corporate and wealthy interests, not for the little guy...

I am thin and a vegan and I have sympathy for this man...some fellow Americans but especially "The System" clearly did not have any sympathy or logic...

I didn’t know that you could be this fat, but not surprisingly, if you let yourself get in such a state, you’re probably committing suicide: F++K YOU. I am 220 Kilos. I have tried a range of medical treatments to no avail. Australia has a good medical service but has no ability to treat what is defined as ” super obesity”. All current medical reports (and I have studied the subject for years) argue that extreme obesity is caused by GENETIC causes. EVEN if a person ate themselves into such an extreme wait, obviously his extreme apetite has a cause. It is unlikely he simply did it out of boredom. Even with available surgical treatments (which have a high death rate, even the so called safe stomach banding is a risk with very large patients), there is no treament in sight. It seems to me that people who have such a hatred of the obese still think we are all monstrous gluttons. It is time to remove the moralism and look at the genetics of obesity and treat it accordingly.
I spend my days househound due to prejudice but live a very fulfilled life writing, researching and publishing. Keep your moralism to yourself.

I don't know that he “let” himself get into that state..but either way, with lung cancer patients we don't spend our primary focus on “did he do it to himself” and the same applies here.

In another article his wife said he was denied disability.

Only in the US would the welfare state be so miserly that they would look at a 900 pound person and not say he's disabled. In Europe one might imagine (not a guarantee but a hell of a lot higher chance of) his getting disability pay, medical (and if needed also behavioral therapy) and helping him heal….then job training…and he'd not be dead but a contributing member of society.
