I agree with you:)) Christianity is good in its essence, but people have transformed religion into a business. The church has money to spend on an anti-gay lobby, but they have no money to help homeless people that die everyday of starvation. Shame on you church leaders... 7 million would have bought many homes... shame on you...

There are far, far more cases of abuse done by public school teachers than Catholic priests but the perceived deep pocket of the Church is a more readily available target than individual school districts. More per capita abuses occur in any profession (lawyers, news reporters, salespeople) than Catholic priests but it is far more easy to attack the Church as a whole. The Church does teach any sexual act that could not result in procreation is wrong. It also teaches killing is wrong and works against capital punishment and violence in general. It has been consistent in its teachings. I am sorry if your “if it feels good do it” philosophy is offended by mores that have been around for over two thousand years. Homosexuality is an aberration. If Evolution is your theory, or religion, than homosexuals should have evolved out eons ago. The very few that remain do so as a reminder that any sexual release is acceptable to, again, a very few and that marketing campaigns can convince people of just about anything. NAMBLA anyone?

I don't remember any stories in the bible about Jesus busting homosexuals. Didn't he supposedly save the prostitute from being stoned for being a “whore”. The whole “he who is without sin may cast the first stone” thing…. or “judge not lest ye be judged”. I don't even consider myself a christian and I can see the wisdom in those words. I find it ironic in the extreme that self proclaimed christians don't seem to get it.

Depends on who you ask, I suppose. Apparently the Catholic god is not such a big fan of the “everyone” classification.

However, it has occurred to me that the picture of those guys holding the sign and this article might not be connected. Like, maybe those Catholics were fighting *for* gay marriage? I only say this because it would actually be really pretty idiotic to use a sign promoting equality when you're actively fighting against it. Maybe I should give these fascists more credit?

They want marriage to be equally denied to everyone who is not heterosexual? They want to make sure that all laws regarding marriage treat them Catholics/Christians equally so long as they are Catholic/Christian?

Tuna and Russ, I'm not even sure what point you guys think you are making there.

Russ: if only people were what? reasonable? not dogmatic fascists? if only they weren't willing to spend millions of dollars to keep a group of people as second class citizens? Yes... the world would be a better place.

Tuna: the role religion plays in the history of society is complicated, granted. This issue however, is pretty black and white. These people are evil fascist dogs who hate everyone who talks with a lisp. These people have no value in a egalitarian society... whatsoever. Defending them, on any level at all, is sick. Lashing out against the umbrella of Christianity (which they so proudly stand under) is not entirely unreasonable.

How does the Catholic line on being gay go? It is okay to be gay, but it is not okay to have gay sex since sex is a gift from God to be used specifically for procreation and nothing else, and gay sex will not lead to offspring.
Sex outside of marriage is a sin, so being gay without being married isn't a sin unless you have sex which, gay or not, is a sin.
If gays get married, you are condoning sex that leads to nothing but orgasms and intimacy and that is contradictory to Catholic principles.

That makes perfect sense in an entirely legalistic view of some rules that were created in addition to the Bible on which they are supposed to be based.
