It would be nice to go to church and actually meet God or Jesus. But every time we go, all we meet are people. Just plain ol people wearing black robes and silk. Other people dress up and come to watch the show. Just people.
Its unlikely the Catholical Church or others will come clean in any big way. Authority needs its illusion of superiority to maintain authority. They will only admit what they have to and will continue to cover up what ever they can. They won't give away the already shrinking power they have left by taking responsibility as an organization. They will characterize the guilty parties as “a few bad eggs” and try to wash there hands of it.
Ther will be no Inquisition, those are reserved for the little people. The church and God are synonomous so they say, so the church can technically do no wrong. Yeah right…..

I value religion and the role it plays in human cultures.

It's stories like this, though, that make it tough to support that position. At times, it seems like various religious groups try their best to make the case that the world would be better off without them. The Catholic church is particularly guilty on that front because of the wealth & power the weld combined with their penchant for being secretive and denying fault for decades or centuries.

The Catholic church really needs to come clean on this issue and take some steps to make amends. They also need to undertake reforms to limit the possibility of problems like this in the future.
