US DoJ, stop treating the guy like a criminal mastermind and leave him to the auspices of the UK judicial/mental health systems please.

I mean, he was able to log on to systems using a blank admin password. Really?

And he had bounced his connection around a bit, so it was pretty slow.

He was only caught because someone saw the mouse moving around on a screen.

He claims he was in the process of downloading a very large image file that showed something of alien origin when he was kicked off the system and eventually discovered.

What do you make of that? Did he really find something that he wasn't supposed to see?

If so, was it just a honey pot left to <del>entrap</del> attract him or someone like him?

The fact that he has Asperger Syndrome (discovered and disclosed after he was charged) has led to absolutely no sympathy and some outright hostility from the British government. Instead of fighting his extradition to the US for a show trial and time in a Federal prison, they are basically falling over themselves trying to hand him over.

Luckily, other groups are taking up his cause and trying to force someone to think about this logically.

Many just say, “He did the crime, let him do the time.”

That's true. He doesn't deny hacking in. But he isn't a terrorist and he shouldn't be treated as an enemy combatant or war criminal just because he did something that embarrasses a country that happens to be engaged in two wars.

The point is to let him do the time in the UK, where he lives, where his family lives. That way, at least he will have their support close at hand with visitations and the comfort of just knowing they are not on the other side of an ocean.

Asperger Syndrome may be treated a self-diagnosed Internet joke, but it is a real illness and it does cause problems. The state of mental health care in the US is unbelievably atrocious. If he survived a stint in our prison system, he would come out far worse than when he went in.

Did he find evidence of UFO technology being hoarded and studied by the US government? I imagine we will never know the answer to what question.

However, knowing the field day that the Chinese and other true enemies of the US have with our government computers and their lack of security and knowing how little they are brought to justice, you have to wonder.
