You don't even need the moldy bread or store bought yeast.
Wild yeast naturally occurs in the air, just leave the mixture open for a few days and stir.
Then seal to avoid further contamination.
I've done this with a drink called Tej and it works wonderfully.

OMG! My mother used to make this in a jar on the kitchen counter. MOM! Is there something you never told me? BTW, it tasted terrible. When I was a teenager, we made our own from grape juice that, for some reason, had to be buried in a brown paper bag.

One-gallon bags are a form of ziploc, so they should be fine for food.

Back in the day I was a teacher at a prison… so when this item came up I was 'sort of' thrilled:

Plastic bags, however, are a BAD idea…
I always saw it in milk/etc. cartons, something obviously made to hold food…

There ARE toxic chemicals on trash bags, etc, no doubt about it – like cancer causing stuff…
