Well, I wouldn’t go that far. Me and my tokin’ friends definitely agree we sometimes get ’stoneovers’ when we wake up after a heavy night of smoking feeling very groggy, wouldn’t be able to work well at all, wouldn’t call it ‘being bright-eyed’. Plus you can get a sore throat/nasty taste in your mouth after smoking a lot. Don’t get me wrong, it’s hardly a bad feeling, especially compared to the kind of crippling hangovers I know I get from too much alcohol. It’s definitely a much more palatable option to be given.

Though censorship is bullshit, I think some of you guys are probably right that Obama and his staff rejected the questions about legalization. But I would too if I were the first black president, as much as I wish race didn't matter. He's a sensible guy, and he knows that much of the white majority would react badly to an executive decision (by a black man, unfortunately there are people who would glue that stereotype to him and vote accordingly) reversing the War on Drugs. He probably wants to, but he's already in dire straits regarding re-election.

If he's gonna talk about this stuff (which he has, really, and he threw us a bone when he got the feds to stop raiding dispensaries) at length then it will probably be after he's re-elected. Until then he's got more serious shit to fix. Legalization is important to me but shit, we can still find weed. It's better to enact this change through local and state legislature anyway

Yup! How many times have I (a lazy, good-for-nothing, apparently), covered for someone at work because they have the brown-bottle flu? Plenty! More times than I can count, honestly, and I'm sick of it. I dream of a world where the majority smokes pot instead of drinks and actually makes it to work when they should, since marijuana has NO HANGOVER EFFECT WHATSOEVER! Hear that all you alcohol users? No hangover effect. Marijuana users wake up the next morning bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and ready for work.

The war against tokers has been going on for over 70 years and I've got people on this discussion screaming for me to “wait” because Mr. Obama has bigger fish to fry. Damn, If there were not the need for the police to arrest 3/4 of a million marijuana users every year that would certainly free up a lot of police to fight terrorists both foreign and domestic. Like you say alcohol is the substance that kills both the user and innocents in such huge numbers.
A point that seems to never get mentioned is that of how many millions of social contracts that go unmet because there is a need for tokers to keep inordinate levels of privacy and security. Think of the invitations to social gatherings that are either declined because one person doesn't feel safe to have others in their home. I will not hire a house keeper because of the risk of my smoke being detected.
Look at our law enforcement group – they drug test so they don't get tokers, but they get plenty of alcohol users. That makes me damn nervous and I'm not advocating being stoned on the job either.

Look at this way: if more and more states begin legalizing medical marijuana, then the federal gov't will have to leave them alone according to Obama's decree regarding states that have legislation on the issue. Legalizing weed would help to fix the economy, if not single-handedly fix it. Nobody knows for sure how many stoners there actually are out there because nobody wants to risk admitting to it. We are only now beginning to see people come out of the woods and say “Yes, I smoke pot, so what?” It's the little guys right now, but soon the big guys will come out and show themselves; i.e. doctors, lawyers, police officers, and other professionals. If the numbers are as high as they are appearing to be at this time, our economy could find itself right-side up very soon for the first time since the Reagan administration, but only IF those in Washington who's duties include doing the will of the people wise up and actually DO the will of the people.. Unfortunately, there are still those who don't understand the drug and, of course, it's human nature to fear what you don't understand. Educate yourself on what you speak about BEFORE you speak.

BTW – The mythical “braindead” stereotype of the marijuana user is false and people are finally realizing this. Don't believe what you see in movies. There are no more “braindead potheads” in the world than their are lazy, good-for-nothing, stinking-a** drunks. Most stoners are hard-working, intelligent individuals; many college educated.

Marijuana is actually less of a drug than alcohol. At least with marijuana you don't get that false sense of security that your actions and behavior are appropriate when they are in actuality far from it. At least with marijuana a person is content to stay home and be happy and cozy instead of wanting to go out on the town and put people's lives in danger. Like I said, educate yourself.

Having worked within these circles, it appears very likely to me that youtube was requested by a presidential attaché not to ask any marijuana related questions – seeing as it is a highly polarized topic at the moment. Dude, it's YouTube-dot-com. Maybe hoping that you'd get some nebulous democracy-juice from a corporate body was a bit misguided. They are only really responsible to their shareholders. They claim no journalistic mandate. YouTube doesn't owe you anything, it is just a product you use. The Obama interview was nowt to do with democracy, it was an image thing. Their corporate image and his political image. And the thing is, deep down, we all knew this at the time. You only get one vote that is sacred; it had better be enough.

President Obama does not need the internet to offer him a chance to talk about drugs policy. He's been voted head of the government. Now he can say, with great force, whatever he wants. We are still waiting…
