Max Fisher's interpretation of the music video for "Paparazzi" is totally off - she kills the ex boyfriend because he tried to kill her...that video is a commentary on fame, the artifice of the American popularity contest, which doesn't distinguish between fame and notoriety. This video seems to be a continuation of that thread.

Yes, Lady Gaga is all about the symbolism of a mindless, vapid culture. She is like Andy Warhol in the sense that she is a pop icon built from the very vapidness that we dispise. But Illuminati mind control? The goal of the illuminati is simply to dissociate people from religion and their own personal values; long story short, the farther we can get them away from any standards of virtue, the more chaos there will be, and the better it will be when someone steps up and becomes the 'savior' leader of it all. I guess I'm having trouble with the idea that having a public image (which is never the real person) is a bad thing. Anyone and everyone who is in the media long enough will have an "image", and I don't see the reasoning behind why manipulating that is a bad thing. Are we pulling her up on the fact that, in her day-to-day life, she DOESN'T prance around in weird outfits to a backround of special effects, like her videos (personally, I wouldn't be surprised to discover that she does)? That she uses the concept of a person as a brand to her advantage? It's tempting for musicians to dismiss pop music, I know this because for most of my teens and well after I had the same opinion. "Pandering" is a difficult charge to prove, however--it assumes that Lady Gaga doesn't enjoy the music herself, or the act of making it, only shilling it out to the clueless masses, which I don't think you can prove (it may be true, but even so having been a professional musician, I can say with confidence that making a dollar sometimes means playing music you don't particularly feel like playing that day). The argument of complexity doesn't stand, either--punk music is comparatively easier to create and perform, but I'd be surprised to hear anyone here rag on it for that. The criticism, as I noted earlier, usually comes from some bullshit notion of "authenticity". Where yours comes from, I can't say. I think if you pay special attention to the actual, literal interpretation of what I wrote, you may realize that I ascertained that Hadrian999 wasn't actually talking about prostitution, only casual sex (not the same, as he points out in his own post). I'm not sure where you're seeing a discrepancy. I'm all for a more relaxed attitude about sex. I write with the idea that words have meaning, not leaving it up to reader to guess "what I mean".
