Ana Catarina Bezerra, a 36-year-old accountant, has a chemical imbalance. She suffers from severe anxiety and hypersexuality. She finds that masturbating helps… for a little while. According to Guanabee, Bezerra explains: “I got so bad I would to masturbate up to forty seven-times a day. That’s when I asked for help, I knew it wasn’t normal.”

Now Bezerra has seen a doctor, and she’s medicated, so she doesn’t need to jill off as often. But she still needs to. It’s disgusting that you think mental and emotional disorders are made up, and that you use those terms as a blanket slur. (Like how all uneducated people are “retarded” and all effeminate men are “gay.”) I’m sure you’d be shocked to learn how many people in your life are affected by these kinds of conditions and must be treated to function independently. You’d feel differently if it were something more “mainstream” (read “better understood”), like taking a medication at intervals, frequent exercise to relieve physical discomfort or frequent meals to treat an eating disorder. The fact that sex is taboo is the only reason that this is news-worthy. And btw, your politics are overused, incendiary, pompous and inappropriate in this context. Get a life.

This wouldn’t be news if she were demanding to be accomodated for something that wasn’t lurid. “Brazilian Woman Wins The Right To Eat Frequently At Work” OMG! What a pig!! She just needs to lay off the chicken wings and get back to work! Diabetes is made up by fat people to excuse having no will power! If she’s that fat, she needs to have gastric bypass and stay home with the kids.

I have BPNOS, GAD and PTSD, and I had to fight to be able to take my meds on time! I have to take breaks to manage my anxiety and maintain my focus. Side effects of my medications: pain in my chest and stomach, dizziness and headaches…. which leads to taking OTC pain relievers in addition. Result: I take pills at my desk about 10x a day, take extra breaks most days and have difficulty bending and lifting. I can’t function without my medication but I am otherwise an efficient, pleasant employee. Lots of people with my diagnoses are on disability, but I want to work. And I am the de facto supervisor in my department.

Sure, she could be on disability. Or she could just suffer through the day without being able to concentrate, until her performance is so lax that she’s fired. But she shouldn’t have to! In an ideal world, her employer would have allowed her frequent breaks without asking questions. The fact that she was forced to divulge her condition is shameful.

It is a company’s job to provide a safe working environment and a
paycheck that doesn’t bounce. Not to cater to the whim of every employee
and their desires. Between medication, discretion and a little bit of
discipline could have solved this without a court getting involved. Too
many people today think that the world around them needs to be catered
to their own little desires. It becomes circular and self defeating
after awhile. Sad…

Not only is it hard to get disability, do you know where that money comes from? SOCIAL SECURITY. You and I pay taxes (*assuming you work) and that’s where that money comes from. Also, they’ve been having these discussions, maybe you’ve heard them… about how Social Security will run out before too long? She is capable of working and wants to. She has a disability, and needs accomodations. Yes, it’s weird but she’s setting a precedent. Now this case will be used as the basis for future suits, and no one will have to go to court and talk about their right to masturbate.

The article only states that she may watch porn at her desk; it doesn’t make clear whether or not she is allowed to masturbate at her desk or if she must go to the toilet to do so. I’d imagine it’s probably the latter, in which case it’s not much different to someone with a weak bladder having to make many toilet trips during the day. In both cases, they have a responsibility to wash their hands afterwards of course, but that shouldn’t be a reason to oppose this.
