While I agree with you in principle i.e., people only having a limit to wealth, free healthcare and legal weed. Only two of those seem reasonable- the last two. Limiting what people earn, won’t solve the problem because those people, who are the rich, hide their money anyways. It’s not like Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and Mark Zuckerberg just have a billion dollars in their savings account; their money is thrown into organizations (some of whom are tax exempt), investments and other things a broke guy like me wouldn’t know about. Just raising taxes to help our economy only hurts people who live paycheck to paycheck. It would be nice if we could just single out the country’s billionaires and raid their money and investments but I’m guessing that won’t ever happen.

Contrary to what many Americans believe, there IS a world outside of the United States.
A world in which MANY nations have socialised medicine, comprehensive free
education, a social safety net for ALL and at least some attempt at
environmental protection. They are not going bankrupt, the citizens of these
nations are not oppressed and are in fact just as free and as wealthy (if not more so) than
Americans… and contrary to what you are constantly told about money =
happiness, these more equal societies rate higher than the Mecca of Capitalism
that is the USA in pretty every measure of a healthy and prosperous society
(crime, affluence, poverty, science, economic productivity, innovation etc.
etc.).
And in case anyone thinks that I’m just some textbook lefty, I grew up in a working-class
immigrant family in mixed-economy Australia where the government educated me
(including university), where the public health system treated me for years and
then CURED me of a serious heart condition with world-class doctors and the
latest in medical technology and supported me when I was unemployed as a recent
graduate (.com crash!). My family didn’t have to sell their home, they kept
their business and continued to pay taxes to support this system. Likewise, I
now pay taxes to support this system.
Since then, however, the economic neo-liberals have privatised,
slashed-and-burned social programs, deregulated the corporate sector (while
regulating the citizenry) and mired us the free-trade globalisation agenda, all
with the promise of greater prosperity, lower prices, more
“innovation”.
The result? EVERYTHING is more expensive, real wages are suffering and our nation has been de-industrialised as jobs flee
to countries where workers have NO rights and there are NO environmental
protections. Go to China and see what it’s like when your rivers and air are so
polluted it literally makes you sick and visit a factory where the workers live
in barracks on the premises and work 14+ hour days so that your fat American
ass can buy cargo pants for 12 bucks.

The problem is not GOVERNMENT per se, it’s the people
RUNNING the government! Keep electing the same rich, cock-suckers and I’m sure
things will get better…

Whilst it is true that rampant consumerism espoused by
matador corporations and their devilish little advertising minions puppeting our
frustrations lead many to live beyond their means in an attempt to “keep up
with the Jones”, I take issue with your assessments.

First: I saw any average home for an “affluent” country like
the US.
The “big” screen TV is old technology CRT and really not that big. Leather
couches? Are you sure that’s leather or maybe just cheap vinyl? The lady (who
is widowed, BTW) also points out that she “had” money and lost it (like many
ordinary people) when the stock market and the rest of the economy tanked. Which
coincidentally wiped out a nice percentage of the value of her home. How much
equity does she have in the property? Can this widowed woman actually walk away
and have something left over to buy an “affordable” apartment?

Does someone have to reach the point of living in a favela
in Rio before you start acknowledging their
difficulties. I realise that $16 a month in food stamps must be a real hit to you pay packet… but suck it up douche-bag.

No-one is talking about “destroying” the rich, just making
them pay a fair share to the society that allows them to become rich. But while
we’re on this topic, the rich seem to able to help themselves by destroying the
poor, both in your own country and throughout the world. “Thrift”, you moron,
the entire economic paradigm pushed by the Koch brothers and their ilk is rampant
consumerism. The system fails without it!

And as for your final point, Henry Ford once said “There is
one rule for the industrialist and that is: Make the best quality of goods
possible at the lowest cost possible, paying the HIGHEST WAGES possible.”
How many companies operate with this ethos today? Virtually none. The
precipitous fall of real wages in your country is actually one of the root
causes of your current economic malaise (within the context of the current
economic paradigm).

And I’ll end with one last point. My American brothers and
sisters, I love you just as I love all citizens of this world. But you all
seriously need to get over this whole “Founding Fathers” and ye-olden days
President worship. Just because some over-privileged bunch of rich,
slave-owning scum-bags said something, or wrote down in ornate cursive
handwriting doesn’t mean it’s right or relevant today. If it is, fine. More importantly
