take 'em out in one shot: ted nugent's cartoon hunting and narcissism
by Viki Reed (divilo@pacbell.net) - June. 17, 2002
For Nugent to say that anti hunting and anti gun lobbies are funded unlimited is a total fallacy and a sick one to promote at that. There is no lobby more wealthy and without bottom in their pockets than the NRA. The NRA, in the noble cause of preserving our right to not be overcome by our government, had sanctioned laws, rules and standards that have cost billions of lives. Not millions. Billions. The gun trade has supplied assassins in third world countries, terrorist groups from Ireland to Afghanistan, has led to a movement to make cheap 'use once' handguns favored by felons and gang bangers, and encouraged a casual acceptance of firearms in the home that has been the cause of more than one child's accidental death. Most of the time a firearm is not used on an intruder contrary to traditional belief—it’s either inaccessible or used against the owner.

Ted's problem is that he tries to be an everyman while he is in fact quite isolated by his self congratulatory wealth. He is able to stock his private many acres. He brags about planting trees that won't be beneficial for a hundred years while ridiculing those who sacrifice their homes to save old growth trees.

The Osbournes III: Rock Promo Tour

Ted's recent promo tour was dominated by his criticism of The Osbournes. He had national forums for weeks after his ridiculous revoltingly dumb book's release. Even if he only gave a faint nod to a one time too extreme comment about the Osbourne family, he had the option to talk about things that needed change. He had the forum to name congressional names, push certain bills or fight others. He had the forum to talk about over-development and non ecological practices like the use of crude oil. I wonder, does Ted have a solar powered house, or partially solar rig? With all his American money had he sought to have a big pick-up truck built with a partial power cel engine or does he likely drive a gas guzzling anti American type of vehicle future?

I doubt there's a question what he drives. You can call Ed Begley a bleeding heart liberal but he has far less money than Ted Nugent and drives cars that don't promote an allegiance to non-patriotic international forces. No, in Ted's mind, the enemy is within the borders of the continental US. The enemy are those who are plagued with addiction who don't have the will power to stop. It's people who buy packaged chicken instead of shooting pheasants or buying game from hunters. It's the parent of a dead kid who says, "You know Britain, Canada, Sweden, and Australia have really strict gun laws and they have by far fewer shooting deaths and they don't prevent hunting . . ."

Dubya v Nader

Despite all the huge insurmountable issues that Ted might be able to focus on, he offers his solid gold opinion on crap that is a waste of his air time.

"George W's record is good. He did an amazing job in Texas with improving the air, soil and water quality." He may be sober but he's high. George W as he calls him was elected by oil magnates and his state is driven by the oil business. Texas and California have the worst air quality in the nation while having among the highest per capita income. How Nugent can claim to have a brain cell on that determination is shocking.

His condemnation of Ralph Nader is evidence of his ego. Nader was one of the few people who spoke out against the SUV phenomenon back when he worked for Carter, a hugely underestimated domestic leader. Nader and company substantiated their claims that SUV's were mechanically and physically prone to roll overs, were gas guzzlers, and were solely the conception of Detroit who tried to u se the law that exempted Pick up trucks from emission standards. Can't build a station wagon without paying extra tariffs? Fine, we'll use the frame of a pick up truck and build something far more wasteful than a station wagon, far more unsafe and ecologically unsound to avoid those taxes and emissions regulations. Yeah, Nader was an ass, Ted, and you're a red blooded American.

Again, Ted tries to sound intellectual but steps on his dick:

"We need to demand that industry lives up to the laws we've already got in place. It's not about being on the left or the right, but about confronting corruption in the industry and government." For one thing, the laws we have in place don't answer to the planet's or this nations real needs, so enforcing them is blind ignorance. Finally, you Ted Nugent are as far right as they come so how can you spout that you're all about bipartisanship for the good of the truth? Uncle Ted talks a lot but what he does really tells the story.

Natural Capitalist Nugent

Nugent the Naive: "We have to get people involved. If everyone living downstream from a stinky river went to the stinky company upstream and demanded that they shut down, we would see results. I've seen it right here in Michigan." Everyone is a vague characterization. Educating 'everyone' on how exactly to do that might be something that someone with lots of media exposure would have success in doing . . . gee, like you!. Maybe if you didn't spend so much time extending monosyllabic words you'd be able to get that if you think that's a key and no one does it maybe you should show them how to do it by doing it yourself.

I saw great numbers of community band and fight only to be overruled ceremoniously by rich fat cats and political special interests. It's not enough to have passion. If you cared you'd impart your tricks, put your name to bills and educate your fans on how exactly to fight such corruption.

Nugent swears he's an activist but refers to female activists as ugly tree suckers and pussies. He hates to be un-American as if un-American means fighting something in government that is wrong, even if it relates to something the NRA is doing.

Greenpeace is not jacking off so they can feel good. They spend hours raising money, not planting saplings where you razed good old trees for your lincoln log house, but to save wildlife and wetlands and more all over the world. They actually die for what they do. How's baby seal clubbing a waste of time? How's trashing the ocean and destroying its ecology (which is the basis for non aquatic life) a waste of time? While Ted teaches rural punks to shoot at summer camp, Greenpeace is aiming rubber rafts at Japanese fishing trawlers that are illegally raping the ocean.

Exploitative Doctrines

Ted has such a hard on for his exploitative doctrine that he denies the value of finding toxins in fish while bitching about salmonella to promote his lifestyle. What a super genius.

Ted complains about the over harvesting of wild turkeys and such. How 'scientists' and 'environmentalists' have preserved this species to an absurd degree. He fails to again recognize that these creatures live in habitats that are so foreshortened that they are absurdly close to suburban dwellers. It's impossible to allow hunting when a bullet can travel miles into someone's dog house or pantry. He's not addressing the real concern. Over development of the American wilderness all over.
