| My wife and I decided that if Barak won, we would not put another penny into this house – this would become a border settlement – we wouldn't need windows, we would need sandbags – when Sharon came in, I said, okay, let's put in windows. That is how personal politics gets. I think that most of us feel like a mother who is trying to protect her child. After 8 years of one extraordinary disillusionment after another, the Palestinians declared war after the most left government in the history of Israel, Shlomo Ben Ami – no one believed it - that we would put Jerusalem on the table. And then, in response, to get the suicide bombers -we had just made this inconceivable offer and immediately people were trying to cover for Palestinian rejectionism. They rejected our every offer. Palestinians say no, and the Palestinian tragedy gets worse. The majority of Israelis learned, you can't occupy another people and be a Jewish and democratic state. The world had no trouble accepting the simplicity of the way that we were wrong. But, when Palestinians screw up – the world says it is complicated. We brought in the babysitter, who turned out to be Jack the Ripper. Until they accept that we have a legitimate right to this land as well as they do, then nothing will change. |
