The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement
"Recognizing the long-term nature of its goals, and the majority's
resistance to its ethos, VHEMT hopes that education will prompt readers to make personal decisions that will benefit Gaia. VHEMT believes that humanity--as a viral, destructive and self-destructive organism--that is destroying Gaia through overpopulation, resource depletion, and waste, needs to end."
Apocalypse Cow: Vaccines, Mad Cows and The New York Times
"Every now and then, the New York Times outdoes itself. It produces an article so rife with distortion that it could just about paralyze me."
Is Futures Studies a Science or an Art?
"American technocratic mind-sets were soon challenged by blowback from geopolitical crises, including the Vietnam conflict and the 1973 OPEC oil crisis. Management by Objectives gave way to scenario-driven planning and computer simulations. 'Big science' was simultaneously facing a post-positivist revolt, which began trickling with Thomas Kuhn's The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (1962), (Bell, 1997: 198), grew with Paul Feyrabend's Against Method (1975) and became a flood of postmodernist critiques. This philosophical battle would be repeated, during the following decades, in the controversies regarding the epistemological status of sociobiology, memetics and evolutionary psychology."
Hazel Henderson
"The whole of my life has been about getting further and further upstream, so that I'm ahead of the power curve, as it were. And the highest upstream that I can figure out how to get is in designing new cultural DNA and splicing it into cultural codes, as well as identifying malfunctioning "DNA strands," such as GNP, which generate pathological patterns in the body politic. This activity has the biggest multiplier in terms of shifting the system towards sustainability."
