Disinformation editor Richard Metzger's essay on Jack Parsons and the Babalon Working originally appeared in the final issue of 21.C magazine.
Salon Book Review: Sex And Rockets
This Salon magazine book review (February 15, 2000) covers Sex and Rockets: The Occult World of Jack Parsons (Los Angeles: Feral House, 2000), the revelatory volume published by John Carter (a pseudonym). John Geirland's review is a good summary of the book, covering Parson's connections with magus Aleister Crowley and a pre-Dianetics/Scientology incarnation of L. Ron Hubbard (who stole many techniques from Crowley/Parsons). Geirland covers the rumours surrounding the enigmatic Parsons and also highligts his 'hidden' cultural impact upon contemporary 'Thelema' practitioners and the US space program.
Whence Came the Stranger:Tracking the Metapattern of Stranger in a Strange Land
Mindblowing exegesis on the idea that Robert Heinlein's sci-fi classic was actually a "Trojan Horse" smuggling Aleister Crowley's religion of Thelema into popular culture. Don't miss this one.
