There are over 200 million unsuspecting victims in over 100 countries ingesting any number of over 9000 products containing Aspartame (AKA Equal(c), NutraSweet(c), Spoonful(c), Equal Measure(c)). Since June of 1996 Aspartame has been approved for use just like sugar, even in heated and baked goods where it breaks down much more rapidly. All Aspartame users acquire damage with each and every use. That damage is cumulative. The lucky victims have rapid-onset problems which are more readily identifiable with ingesting a toxin. Most users take years to acquire problems their doctors can no longer blame on a "normal" disease.
What is Aspartame? The long name for it is: Aspartyl-l-phenylalanine methyl ester, 98% (Aspartame, C14H18N2O5). It is composed of:
10% Methanol (when in solutions such as Kool Aid(c), coffee, tea, pop).
40% Aspartic Acid (an isolated amino acid not found solo in nature).
50% Phenylalanine (another isolated amino acid in an abnormally high concentration, and the reason for the warning label 'Phenylketonurics: Contains phenylalanine').
Aspartic Acid and Phenylalanine do occur in nature, but in balanced combinations with other naturally occurring substances. In Aspartame these items are unnaturally isolated, and in larger quantities.
Beverages with Aspartame have an approximate 270 day shelf life if they are stored at or below 85 degrees F. As the beverage ages the 10% Methanol converts to Formaldehyde (yes, embalming fluid) in the original unopened container. This creates a bitter taste, and it may even burn the tongue.
The body cannot use Methanol or Formaldehyde. Methanol in fruits is accompanied by mother-natures antidote known as Ethanol, which stabilizes the Methanol until it has been eliminated from the body. Aspartame contains no ethanol.
The unstable Methanol readily breaks down into Formaldehyde. Some of it is combined with water and stored in the fat (termed "weight gain"), and some of it is further converted to formic acid (the poison found in fire ant stings). The Aspartic Acid is known to play a role in triggering seizures (by as little as one stick of sugar-free gum in some people). The Phenylalanine readily converts to Diketopiperazine (DKP), which is a known tumor agent. DKP was perhaps the primary suspect in 12 of the 320 animal test subjects that developed brain tumors. The Federal Drug Administration's 'Bressler Report' confirmed the brain tumors, and added mammary, ovarian and uterine tumors to the list.
The FDA compiled 92 symptoms for aspartame poisoning based on over 10,000 complaints. The most common rapid-onset problems are migraine/headaches, balance, mood, vision problems . . .with long term problems such as arthritis-like pains. Aspartame disease mimics symptoms or makes worse the following diseases:
Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinson's Disease, Lupus, Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS), Diabetes and Diabetic Complications, Epilepsy, Alzheimer's Disease, Birth Defects, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Lymphoma, Lyme Disease, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Panic Disorder, Depression and other Psychological Disorders.
The National Soft Drink Association (NSDA) knew it was poison before it was approved. They submitted a 30-page protest that mentioned the fact that aspartame was unstable, and that it reduced the levels of serotonin (a substance that gives one that "full" feeling) which often induces a craving for carbohydrates. Diminished serotonin is also linked to behavioral problems.
The NSDA protest was read into the Congressional Record (Senate S5511, 5/7/85). The protest noted: "Aspartame is inherently, markedly and uniquely unstable in aqueous media." (Readily breaks down from 10% Methanol to Formaldehyde, and from Phenylalanine to Diketopiperazine (DKP), a known tumor agent.)
Perhaps the phrase that best applies is: "Aspartame is a Pandora's box of chameleon-like toxins and tumor agents that have 92 FDA acknowledged ways to ruin your life, death being one of them."
