Honesty In American Politicw
I'm not too sure about the moral angle here, but the part about honesty being expected of our elected officials stands to reason, even if it is idealism of the most blatant kind. Still, one can dream!
There's A Fish In The Courhouse
This one is for those who are grasping for explanations, as the reality of things is too much to bear. Could it be this guy has it nailed, I seriously doubt it! Heavy anti-Semitism at this spot, so be warned, it is very U-G-L-Y! I wholeheartedly distance myself from the author's conclusions. There are some realproblems out there to be dealt with, and this really isn't one of them, but as this has brilliant fringe-religion, disinformation, and distraction potential, I felt it merited inclusion here. It's not the politicians fault - well, you'll see!
CIA & Opium: Bo Gritz
While there is a lot about ol' Bo that should make one wonder just who he was working for at any given time, and how much of what he was saying was solid disinformation, the US government does have a hand in helping out many regimes who actively produce and ship tons of drugs all over the world, including into the US, so at least part of this is right. POW/MIA is a sticky, convoluted topic, utilized by some to distract attention away from ongoing criminal behavior in upper levels of government. If the US government did leave servicemen behind anywhere, and it appears they did, that is a treasonous crime in and of itself.
DEA's Finest Details Corruption
One of the very worst crimes being committed right now at this very moment by the US Government and its enforcers is the infliction of the 'Drug War' on its own citizens, and the rest of the entire world. Huge industries have built up around the continuance of the 'Drug War', then the very same ones who sign into law measures locking people away for life, turn out to be connected to the very ones producing, and shipping in the drugs in the first place.
Vice-President Makes Fundraising Calls From His Office
This 1997 list of crimes includes Al Gore's making unauthorized (or illegal if you aren't so 'Politically Correct' about it), calls to raise political contributions from his White House phone, as well as another blurb on a former Secretary of Agriculture being indicted on thirty nine counts of illegal gifts and contributions. Sometimes even these honchos face penalties that include prison.
Are Politicians And Psychopaths Cut From the Same Cloth?
Here is a report on the results of a study undertaken in England in 1996 that seems to show a correlation between politicians and psychopaths, not to say by any means that all psychopaths are criminal minded, but it may explain some irrational political behavior.
The War On Drugs
The US has exported its War on Drugs to Sweden, perhaps in return for ABBA. Two wrongs don't make a right, so this should not be taken lightly. The Drug War is a crime against us all!
African Perspective
Here one can read the story of Amadou Dialo, who was shot at 41 times, hit 19, by four trigger happy white cops. Regardless of the excuse, 41 times? They missed more than half their shots. Were he not in his own vestibule, the cops may have killed many more innocent people than just poor Amadou!
The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act
The FPCA was enacted after the Watergate scandal brought the problem of how US big business, using foreign intermediaries, brought bribery and other forms of corruption to other foreign governments into the light. It does not cover domestic corruption inside the US border.
Fight The Left Webring
A question: Isn't it possible for any of these people to expose deceit and hypocrisy without doing it in a partisan fashion? Liberal, conservative, Democrat, Republican, corruption and lying are practiced by every political group under the sun. To attack one group to the exclusion of all others seems rooted in psychological angst, and personal beefs, rather than an interest in exposing crimes being perpetrated on US, and world citizens by their 'leaders'.
Russian Lawmaker Questions US Interest In Russian Corruption
A member of Duma, in testimony before the House of Representatives 'Banking Committee', (September 1999), questions the timing of 'sudden' interest of US authorities in the Banking and money laundering shenanigans in late 1999. US authorities knew about misbehavior long before officially starting any sort of investigation, almost as though it had been held back to be used in a 'bombing attack'. Two members of the 'Nixon Center', a 'conservative' think tank, accused the Clinton administration of continuing to push for Billions of dollars in IMF loans to Russia, when they were aware that most if not all of that money was being diverted by criminal organizations, and corrupt politicians.
Nazis And US Politicians
Historical review of various Nazi connections within US institutions of government, including 'intelligence'. Collusion behind the scenes by assorted US industrialists, and their cohorts, is a well documented fact, and certainly a treasonous crime if there ever were one. Brief snippets from a much larger document, so take your time.
Politician Graveyard Review
This is a review of the 'Political Graveyard' list of Disgraced, and Troubled politicians, and points out that not every politicians listed is literally dead yet.
New Mexico: Land Of Entrapment
This is a site listing various misdeeds of New Mexican law enforcement, aiming for an honest government guaranteed by the US Constitution.
G.W. Bush Is Evil
This is an amusing little note on zombiedog's feeling about Bush Jr.
Defy Authority
This is taking the reactions to official misconduct a bit far maybe, but again, the spirit is right here I think. Check it out, use your own judgment.
Money And Politics
Meanwhile, or so the story of corruption goes, the American public increasingly tunes politics out, settling instead for the view that the system is corrupt, both parties are tainted, and that the people are largely powerless to change it. This is a review of Elizabeth Drew's book, 'The Corruption of American Politics'. Interesting piece from the 'Heritage Foundation'.
The Case For Impeaching Rogue Judges
Another policy paper on corruption, this time regarding the US Federal Judiciary. Corrupt 'rogue' judges are to be feared as much, if not more, than the simple lawmakers themselves.
Revisiting Corrupt Practices From A Market Perspective
Corruption is a common trait of all political systems . . . It is not just the US system that breeds corruption, it is all political systems that breed corruption, inherent in their very makeup. It is a problem more complicated than that, so read this for yourself!
Panama's Lessons
If the 1989 assault on Panama (Operation Just Cause) had really been to 'crush corrupt politicians' our troops would "have to parachute into Washington, DC to 'crush' our own Congress." Noriega was the first real test case in the Drug War supplanting the Commie bogeyman, and wouldn't you know, it worked like a charm! Politically and institutionally corrupt factors in the US sent in troops to protect profitable US property, and money making operations in Panama that Noriega was inconveniently hampering, though he was being paid oodles of money by those same US factors.
US Government Crimes & Scandals
This is an intriguing site, entertaining, and horrifying at the same time. There's a cartoon of ATF/UN troops about to bust in a door somewhere, presumably anywhere-America, so this should give an idea of the political bent here. Well worth a look, regardless of your political view. Be sure to read the 'Government vs. Beavers' piece for a humor break during the harrowing read through this long list of crimes and scandals of the US government.
US And Mexico: Well Suited Neighbours
The two countries are well suited neighbors, Richard Rodriquez writes here, because they are "comparably corrupt . . .The US has the highest murder rate in the world, a federal government awash in corruption, and a drug habit second to none. Mexico has a criminal police force, a vast drug economy, and a federal government awash in corruption." Remarking on the finger pointing that takes place between the two countries over where the fault lies for the Drug Problem, Rodriguez writes, "The john is as guilty as the whore," in that US drug appetite and Mexican supply are equally involved in perpetuating this phony, extremely profitable 'Drug War'.
Iowa Reform Party Achieves Third Party Status
This article marks the official 1997 recognition by the state of Iowa of the 'Reform Party', after 'Reform Party' candidate Ross Peroit attained 8.5 percent of the Iowa's presidential votes. Sad that in this country there are so few real choices for honest politicians, who aren't simply special interest puppets. One can always dream.
They Profit, You Go To Jail
Here's a juicy, disgusting piece on how this investment company, using 'Initial Public Offerings' (IPOs), issued and sold a bunch of stock, making a mint, on one of the fastest growing industries in the US: Prisons. Because the prison rate is climbing so fast in the US, the government moved to privatize prisons, turning over these facilities to private industry. Now the correctional officers unions who run these institutions around the US have turned into a major political force, and are substantial donors to campaigns of law-enforcement-friendly politicians who are "tough on crime."
American Medical Marijuana Association
Cops in California, in collusion with certain DAs and corrupt politicians, are seemingly conspiring amongst themselves, by targeting sick patients who are not breaking any laws, dragging them into court, destroying their property, and their medicine, forcing them to try and defend themselves, when they are not criminals under California law.
What Are They Smoking?
California is a state where the 'California Correctional Peace Officers Association' is a heavy political force, and whose Attorney General was once obliquely threatened with arrest by US Drug Czar Barry McCaffrey. "When a nation is effectively ruled by the political power of the police, it is a police state, regardless of whether or not it retains the formal procedures of a democracy," said Dick Cowan, former National Director of NORML. Also covered is the fact that Congress killed a vote of US citizens in the capital of the "free" world late in 1999, when Rep. Bob Barr (R-Georgia) managed to get an amendment added to the Washington DC FY2000 budget, effectively killing I-59 (a medical marijuana bill), before it had a chance to become a law. A must read!
Political Graveyard: Politicians Who Got Into Trouble Or Disgrace
There are 181 US politicians listed here who at some point in their careers were either in trouble or disgraced. Very interesting site, with much more information on dead politicians at the homepage, mainly trivia.
Clinton-Gore Campaign Finance Corruption
Riady, who has been linked to campaign finance malfeasance in the Clinton-Gore administration during the 1996 run for President, has been linked to the former President of Indonesia as well.
Doris 'Granny D' Haddick's Homepage
This page gives me hope in America, except that 'Granny D' is 89 years old, and we need youth who care as well, or there will never be a change. This woman is an angel, and deserves all the attention she can get. I am amazed, and touched, to see the effort this woman is making to get campaign finance reform to the attention of the public, and our elected officials.
The Center For Public Integrity
This outfit is dedicated to examining "pubic service and ethics related issues." One can access and buy the new book, 'The Buying of the President 2000', by founder of the Center, Charles Lewis, full of information on all the candidates running for President. Another must visit for anyone interested in public accountability. Since Watergate, it is reported, the candidate who has raised the most money has gotten their party's nomination, every single time.
Rotting For Pot
This is an article on how the cops in Siskiyou Co., California have busted this guy who was not breaking California law. It also details how two of the prosecuting officers have themselves gotten into trouble over alcohol since the arrest, one on the way to a pot-garden stakeout with cases of beer in the back of his vehicle, smashing into a woman's car, and killing her.
GWBush.com: It's The Hypocrisy, Stupid!
That is the message here, and it is well worth the visit. Anyone who wants this man for president of the United States must not care who is really running his or her country, as this guy is completely bought and paid for by SPECIAL INTEREST Groups. Plus, if the cocaine allegations are true, he signed into law penalties for mandatory sentencing for tiny amounts of cocaine, imprisoning folk who were merely imbibing in the rich man's drug. Maybe he was simply upset that someone was doing the coke he could potentially have been doing.
Bush Family Values
This is the now classic 'Mother Jones' report on President Bush, and three of his sons' business dealings. G.W. now, for his run at the White House, has at collected at least US$50 MILLION from various contributors. He is being bought, and paid for. Is this really so hard to see?
FBI Documents Show Gore Changed Fundraising Story
Preston: Hey, so Gore was taking a piss when illegal fund raising discussions were going on, or so he now says, now that his short term memory has cleared up a bit. Originally it was his foggy memory that he blamed, so it is nice to see he's getting his head cleared up, and can now change his story to the truth about his involvement in not-entirely-legal telephone fundraising discussions.
2000 Primary Calendars
Don't let the title scare you away. Find out who voted to suppress democracy in the oft described capital of the free world, Washington, DC, when Congress killed a popular vote to allow DC doctors to suggest to their patients medical marijuana use for a variety of ailments. 69 percent of the voters said YES to Initiative 59 in 1998, but Congress, (led by Rep. Bob Barr and cronies), stopped the counting of the votes. Then in 1999, Barr again led the charge against I-59, managing to kill it once again before it could become law, though he was not able to stop the actual count.
