where's osama been hidin'?
by Preston Peet (ptpeet@cs.com) - September 18, 2001
Wanted for two 1998 US embassy bombings in East Africa (Kenya and Tanzania), Osama bin Laden has declared his own version of Holy War on the US. Former CIA Director George Tenent told Congress on Wednesday, 2nd February 2000 that bin Laden is seeking to acquire radiological, chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons, and, "despite some well-publicized disruptions, he can still strike without additional warning." Considering that bin Laden has declared his intentions to "kill all Americans," loud and clear, this is a worrisome situation for the US. That is, if bin Laden survives much longer with his failing kidneys.

Sparked by arrests of a 32 year old Algerian, Ahmed Ressam, on the Washington/Canada border on 14 December 1999, smuggling bomb making materials in the trunk of his car; and of 13 suspected bombers and gunmen as they arrived at the airport in Amman, Jordan, (December 5th, 1999), investigations of the suspect's plans to attack US targets have discovered connections said to run directly to Osama bin Laden.

Osama bin Laden is a Saudi Arabian multi-millionaire muhajadeen whose family owns a gum Arabic company, practically holding a monopoly on the stuff. Despite drastic US efforts to go after bin Laden's money, and suffering cruise missile attacks in 1998 in retaliation for the two embassy bombings, bin Laden has been able to eluded US ire. On the FBI's Top 10 Most Wanted list, bin Laden has been under investigation for nearly five years, has been charged with at least 16 others for conspiring to kill Americans, and for the two embassy bombings. Bin Laden is suspected in other bombings that killed US soldiers throughout the mid 1990s, and is accused of using the proceeds from the Opium trade to further his terrorist schemes.

The Times of India newspaper (referring to a story in the 'LA Times') quotes Richard Labeviere (January 15, 2000), a Swiss journalist, who wrote about "US complicity in the rise of violent Muslim movements, from the religious brotherhoods that combated nationalist leaders like Egypt's Gamel Abdel Nassar, to the foreign troops sent to Afghanistan in the 1980s, and that country's present-day rulers, the Taliban."

Osama bin Laden's international terrorist apparatus, al-Qaeda, ('the base'), was set up for the muhajadeen (the Afghan fighters), and their Muslim supporters around the world, like bin Laden, who fought the Soviets in the 1979-1989 conflict, as opposed to run of the mill fedayeen, who are fighting the general overall Muslim jihad, but did not fight in Afghanistan), by the CIA's then-favored bad-boy Afghani opium trafficker, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. These guys were secretly financed by the CIA through Pakistan's spook group Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI), until the Soviets departed in 1989. The Taliban, originally deadly enemies of Hekmatyer, are now hiding bin Laden in Afghanistan, insisting it is against their ways to turn a 'guest' over to the "enemy."

Never fond of non-believers to begin with, bin Laden got really upset with the US, and the Saudi Royal family when it allowed US troops into Saudi Arabia, bin Laden's homeland, and site of Mecca, most holy city of the Muslim faith, during the Gulf War against Iraq. Insisting it is for religious reasons, not merely because the US is forcing down oil prices his mates could be making more money on, bin Laden declared war on the US.

It's been reported (February 6, 2000) by a London-based Arab newspaper that a weakening Osama bin Laden has called for a doctor to visit his secret lair, to treat his deteriorating kidneys. When bin Laden is gone, rest assured there are many more like him who will gleefully take his murderous place.

Bin Laden Reportedly Makes Promise To Taliban
A very short note from 1998 on how Osama had promised his Taliban friends not to use Afghanistan as a staging point for his terrorist campaign.

Osama Bin Laden
Short essay on bin Laden, and how he was trained and equipped by the CIA at one time, and now the CIA can't seem to catch up to him, nor prevent his committing terrorist attacks at will. Despite all the hoopla over the recent arrests (December 1999), this still seems to be the case.

Bin Laden 'Worked In Tandem With Pak' To Push In Infiltrators
Here is a brief report on how bin Laden was working with the Pakistanis to help infiltrate fighters into Kargil, Kashmir.

Osama Bin Laden Involved In Pakistan's Kargil Misadventure
Another short mention of bin Laden's helping out the Pakistani ISI, infiltrating warriors into Kargil, in India's Kashmir in 1999.

Jordanian Intelligence Outstrips Mossad
A recent article in the 'New York Times' newspaper has disclosed the US intelligence now considers Jordanian intelligence to be its "most important partner in fighting Islamic terrorism." Jordan has been investigating Osama bin Laden's crew of terrorists who were endeavoring to pull off a bang in Amman at the Millennial New Year celebrations.

Mauritania Says No Bin Laden Arrests Made
The Mauritanian government has denied reports that five Islamic extremists suspected of possible links to bin Laden have been arrested in their country, contrary to previous reports.

Osama Ate My Balls
Not for the followers of Osama, those who like the guy and feel that making fun of him is not funny. Those who don't care one whit about Osama's feelings, and like this sort of juvenile humor, will like this site a lot though, I believe.

Jihad In Kashmir Not Terrorism Says Musharrif
The coup-installed General Musharrif of Pakistan has publicly drawn a line between freedom fighting, and terrorism. Is this so different from the US position? Musharrif is supposedly going to ask the Taliban to look into the bin Laden matter, and may have by now, not that the West should expect bin Laden handed over on a platter.

Taliban Seeks Proof
Mullah Mohammed Rabbani, head of the 'Taliban Council of Ministers', said Tuesday February 1st, 2000 that Pakistan's Gen. Musharrif had made a request of the Taliban regarding Osama bin Laden, but neglected to elucidate on what that request was. The Taliban insists that anyone who has proof that bin Laden was involved in the bombing of any of his targets, to bring it to the Taliban Supreme Court, where they will decide if he is guilty or not, and if they should hand him over to the US, or another Western country.

Gorbachev Says He Was bin Laden Target On US Trip
According to the 'Itar-Tass News Agency' (February 1st, 2000), the Russian news service, Gorbechev was targeted by Osama bin Laden and friends in December 1998, on a trip to the US to meet with then President Reagan and VP Bush. The plan apparently was to blow him up with hand grenades as part of their campaign to drive the Soviets from Afghanistan soil.

Taliban To Talk To US
This October 1999 piece is on the suggestion that perhaps the Taliban will meet with US officials to talk about stuff. Though they also say they have tried bin Laden in a Taliban court and found him innocent, he may still be one of the topics of discussion.

Witness Held In Terror Plot
A witness is being held in protective custody, to "determine if he knows about other on-going investigations," said the man's lawyer in Seattle.

FBI Set To Question African About Bomb Plot
FBI agents wanted to question a man in connection to an alleged world wide terrorist plot headed by bin Laden.

Portraits Of Osama Bin Laden
Detailed look at bin Laden, hiding out in his 'batcave' by 'Time' magazine.

Osama Bin Laden Says He Wasn't Behind Embassy Bombings
I was not involved in the bomb blasts, but I don't regret what happened there, this article quotes bin Laden as saying in 1998. The Taliban have held an inquiry into the allegation made by the US of bin Laden's being behind an international terrorist ring, and found him innocent, blasting the US for "failing to provide evidence of his guilt." Hmmm, who to believe?

Clinton Imposes Sanction On Taliban
A brief overview of Clinton's leveling of economic sanctions against the Taliban for harboring bin Laden. Also discussed is the US$5 Million reward on bin Laden's head. Where have all the bounty hunters gone?

Clinton Imposes Sanction On Taliban
Preston: A brief overview of Clinton's leveling of economic sanctions against the Taliban for harboring bin Laden. Also discussed is the US$5 Million reward on bin Laden's head. Where have all the bounty hunters gone?

Seven bin Laden Attacks Stopped
Oh yeah, I believe it! Seven attacks were stopped before they happened, say US intelligence sources in this report from 'USA Today' newspaper (February 24th, 1999). OK, they didn't says this around budget time by any chance, did they?

Iraq Tempts Bin Laden
Another look at the offer by Saddam Hussein to lure Osama bin Laden into working with him, by offering sanctuary from the West if only he'd do a bit of damage to Saddam's hated enemies first. No sign that bin Laden took his offer yet, but there may still be time.

New Suspect In Bomb Plot Fled Canada Under Pressure
This report says that one suspect associated with bin Laden fled Canada because he knew he was being watched.

Bin Laden Link To Late '99 Bomb Plot Reported
US officials are still tying Bin Laden to a World-Wide terror plot to bomb various targets.

CIA Feared Overseas Bill Kill Plot
According to this 'New York Daily News' article (March 31st, 2000), Osama bin Laden has been accused of plotting to blow US President Bill Clinton out of the sky in during his recent visit to Bangladesh. The CIA states that their operatives saw evidence of large shifts of money which they feared was to pay for the assassination.

Osama Issue: FBI Chief Due Next Week
According to this article (April 2nd, 2000), FBI Director Louis Freeh is going to Pakistan to try and persuade the Pakistani Government to help the US catch and deport Osama bin Laden to stand trial in the United States.

Arrested In Mauritania, Tied To Bin Laden
Four arrested individuals in this Western African country are said to have ties to bin Laden, and have been plotting bomb attacks on US targets.

Afghanistan: The Lion, The Base, And His Band Of Merry Afghans
Quite an entertaining rundown of "Lil Laden," as they affectionately refer to Osama here. Part of a larger site breaking down the situation in Afghanistan, where Osama cut his teeth in the fatwa/war business. This is a great site, well worth a visit.

Jordan Links Terrorist Plot To Bin Laden
Fourteen men were arrested just prior to the new year (2000) in Jordan, alleged to be involved in a plot with bin Laden to blow up the American owned 'Radisson Hotel' in Amman, and machine-gun them as well. Others are saying there's nothing to the allegations, and that the plot is all over-exaggeration on the part of American and Jordanian officials.

The World's Most Dangerous Terrorist
One thing that often seems to be forgotten is that there are a lot of other rich, disgruntled Sudanese, Afghanis, Saudis, Turk, Iraqis, Iranians, and more, who are not happy with the US, and would like to blow up US citizens and property. Why all the sensationalist focus on this one guy? Could it be a situation like the US has with Saddam, or with Noriega, or a myriad number of other two bit dictators and assets? Could it be that certain parties in the intelligence field would rather it not get out that they helped arm and support this fundamentalist maniac while funding his friends during the 1980s Afghan Jihad, the mujahadeen?

Prosecutors Portray The Strands Of Bin Laden Web Of Terror
Prosecutors are beginning to lay out their case in the press, which is never a good sign. Remember Lee Harvey Oswald, and his public press assisted prosecution. In this case though, bin Laden has flat out said he wants all Muslims to kill Americans, so the US has a point in suspecting bin Laden of committing the bombings and crimes he's accused of.

The New Terrorism
Here is an interesting portrayal of the "new terrorists," with RealPlayer files, for a "dynamic portrayal of the new threat of terrorism." Flashy site.

CIA's Anti-Soviet Jihad Fomented Terrororism
Here is a look at how it's possible that it is the CIA's own trained and financed terrorists, originally for fighting the Soviets, that started this whole mess with the fundamentalist Muslim terrorist squads. The US has a Frankenstein monster complex, the need to create these beasts that can't take the abuse and the beatings and the betrayals for too long before they begin to get indignant and want to bite back.

Reactions Of Islamic Groups
Here are reactions, both praising, and condemning the bombings of the US embassies in East Africa that bin Laden is accused of masterminding, by various Islamic nations and groups.

Bin Laden Seriously Ill, Orders House Call
Osama's kidneys are failing, but did George Tenent say anything about this during his fear-mongering speech to Congress? NO. Why are we giving the CIA at least US$27 Billion dollars a year for again?

Emergency And Response Research Team: Osama Bin Laden Page
This is a great breakdown of Osama's stats, a virtual wanted poster. Note the unusual spelling of Osama's name. This happens, with so many different spellings that it can be quite confusing. Make sure to read about the planned attempts to use poison gas bombs in Jordan, from 'Newsweek' magazine (February 7th, 2000).

Who The Heck Is That Usamah Bin Laden?
Mario Profaca's 'Cyberspace Station' page on Osama bin Laden. Profaca has one of the best sites on the web, for those interested in all the most up to the minute information from around the world, on a variety of subjects, such as Spy news, and Terrorism, among others. Well worth a visit, and a bookmark. His covering of Osama bin Laden includes this third spelling of Osama's first name, and covers an incredible array of information culled from over 400 publications around the world.

American Embassy Bombings In Kenya And Tanzania
An analysis of both the US embassy bombings in Africa in 1998, by 'Real World Rescue' - "advisors and specialists in high risk travel, terrorism, hostage survival, and non-combatant evacuation." Very interesting page. Be sure to visit the home-page of this outfit!

Plots To Kill The President
Gee, someone else dares plot to kill foreign leaders? When it is US officials that are the "foreigners," they get upset, but when it is Castro, or Milosevic, or Saddam, well, that is not "terrorism," or "assassination," that is simply for the "good of the country," or "national security." Not that I am supporting any assassinations, by anyone, I just think it is poetic justice that US officials be targets too, if they insist on firing missiles indiscriminately at civilian targets. This article discusses a plot involving Ramzi Yousef, the alleged bomb builder of the World Trade Center bomb, to kill Clinton in Manila.

US Thinks Afghan Militia Of Extremists Behind Attacks
It's a barbaric way to send a message, if that's what it was, said White House spokesperson Joe Lockhart, speaking of the six rockets someone fired in the span of two minutes at US and UN offices, two days before sanctions were to be levied against Afghanistan for refusing to hand over Osama bin Laden to the West. These sanctions included the banning of international flights of the Afghanistan airline Ariana, which is at the time of this writing going through the first hijacking of an Afghani plane in history. The hijacking is speculated to be engineered by Afghani opposition members: those who are fighting the Taliban (and everyone else in Afghanistan pretty much).

Osama Bin Laden
Here is an article (August 15th, 1999), saying that the Taliban are a threat to regional stability, stating that they are giving shelter to every terrorist group fighting governments everywhere in Central Asia. Including Osama bin Laden. It also discusses the "criminal economy supported by the Taliban, which spreads weapons and drugs throughout the region."

Osama Bin Laden Background
Evidence supposedly uncovered by the CIA on a terror suspects' confiscated computer disc details over 100 planned attacks on US and Israeli targets, under the direction or auspices of bin Laden.

Saddam Hussein & Osama Bin Laden: A Suicide Pact
Wow, two CIA built and supported terrorists gone "bad," ganging up together to fight their evil oppressors. Sounds like Hollywood, but unfortunately, it's not, it is exactly what this site speculates, without mentioning of course that the CIA, (or US business corporations, pretty much the same thing) had anything to do with Saddam's chemical precursor buildup, or that the CIA was giving money to bin Laden for the entire Afghanistan conflict, through their conduits, Pakistan's ISI.

Hezb-e-Islami-Afghanistan
This is Hekmatyar's current Afghani opposition group. Scroll down the page to read "Terrorism - Who's To Define It," and "Osama bin Laden, Terrorist, Islamic Hero." These are both great articles on terrorism, the reasons for it, and why there are those like bin Laden willing to fight still for what they believe is right. Not that it makes it so, but still, it is easier to understand why they are so completely deluded to believe that blowing up bombs is OK. Because others have always used terrorism, so they can too! Of course, makes so much sense.

An Inside Look At Osama Bin Laden's Terror Inc
This is an interesting piece on the bumblings of some of the terrorists involved with Osama bin Laden's terror group, al-Qaeda. Of course, they were not so bumbling they weren't able to pull off a number of killings and bombings, including of US embassies and military personel.

Bin Laden Seeking Chemical Arms: CIA
CIA Director Tenent told Congress (February 3rd, 2000), that bin Laden's gang is tied to other terrorist groups, such as the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, and has links to terrorists of many different nationalities too.

Suspected Terrorist No Threat, Military Says
This report from the 'Vancouver Sun' (January 12th, 2000), clearly shows that the US military, as recently as mid-January, were saying that this dangerous terrorist arrested at the border of Canada and the US is nothing more than a low level thief, possibly nothing more than a mule, and is not dangerous. This is nothing like most press reports, linking the Algerian Ahmed Ressam directly to Osama bin Laden.

Muslim Leader In Texas Denies Being Linked To Osama Bin Laden
A Muslim spiritual leader living in Texas, as he's described in this article, denies that he has anything to do with bin Laden, or with terrorism.

Witness In Terror Conspiracy Case Release
It turns out that Yousef Karroum, the man grabbed at the border of Canada and Washington and held as a material witness to bin Laden's terrorist conspiracy has been released, as he had nothing to do with any terrorists whatsoever. The bomb sniffing dogs smelled nitrates in his car all right, fertilizer that had been carried in the same car he was renting it seems. Talk about bumbling. It is hard to tell who is worse, bin Laden, who blows up innocent women and children, or the US government, who blows up innocent women and children. Ah well, at least with the US government, I can write these words, and not get whipped, or castrated, or whatever bin Laden would do to me if he could get his hands on my unbeliever self.

Bin Laden Matchboxes
Better known as 'Your Tax Dollars at Work', this nifty trick by the US government to put notice on Osama bin Laden by printing wanted posters onto matchboxes does not seem to be working Maybe it is because the US government has misprinted the size of the award. Someone has also printed a Wanted message on Pakistani 100 Rupee notes, though the US government has expressed bafflement at who it could have been that did that.

Osama: America's Latest Punching Bag
This is quite a detailed piece on Osama's network of terrorists, some of who have been flooding into Afghanistan to visit with the boss, using special Taliban issued IDs to enter and leave the country.

US Has Trouble Tracking Bin Laden
This 'ABC News' story (March 22nd, 2000) appears to be sheer disinformation: propaganda designed to justify huge increases in Intelligence operation funding, and other nifty antidemocratic efforts on the part of the American government. This is not to say that Osama wasn't planning on offing President Bubba, he very well could have been, and probably was. President Bubba probably sent him a thank you note for the added meat for the CIA propaganda Wulitzer.
