scientology
by Richard Metzger - August 02, 2001
You've seen the television commercials advertising Dianetics: The Science of Mental Health, with its promise of a happier, healthier human race if we'd all just follow the precepts of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, but what's the real story? Is the Church of Scientology the Amway of the pop psychology movement or is there something else entirely going on? The organization has of late been the center of heated controversy on the Internet, much of it coming from former Church members. Our staff have selected some sites focusing on the Internet Scientology debate including links to 'official' Scientology sites and a few sites the Church would probably rather you NOT see.

more information

Books about Scientolgy
Save 20% on books about Scientology in the Headshop.

Battlefield Earth
I wonder if it'll be a musical??? Hubbard actually put out a synthpop/disco ALBUM of Battlefield Earth in (I'm guessing) 1979. I have it, it sucks. Also, check http://www.battlefieldearth.com/ if you care.

This is the Fishman Affidavit
Affidavit filed in the Scientology/Steven Fishman trial. Legally approved. Interesting stuff!

Scientology's Private Investigators
Purportedly 'busts' some private investigators who are alleged to work for Scientology. WILD.

An Introduction to Scientology
Links to mostly anti-Scientology websites and articles. Lotsa stuff here. Exhaustive.

Lisa McPherson Memorial Page
'The available evidence ... points to Lisa having been put on the Introspection Rundown that Scientology uses to handle those who have had a psychotic break.'

Scientology In The Machine
This 'Wired News' article (March 19th, 2000) suggests that Microsoft may be forced to turn its closely guarded 'Windows 2000' source-code over to Germany's federal authorities, because the code uses disk fragmentation technology developed by a softare company connected with the Church of Scientology.

The Hubbard is Bare
Anti-Scientology essay From F.A.C.T. Net. by Jeff Jacobson offers arguments indicating plagiarism of Dianetics' main themes.

The Road to Xenu
Complete hypertext version of Margery Wakefield's book about what it's (supposedly) like inside Scientology. Chapters include: Implant Stations in the Sky, Star Trek for Real, Blood on the Bedroom Wall and my fave pithy title: Have You Ever Enslaved a Population? Weirdsville, baby, weirdsville.

The REAL Steve Fishman Home Page
The home page that started the WWW hail storm over publication of Scientology sacred texts. Steve Fishman has TIRELESSLY crusaded against the Church and is at the center of much controversy. A must see for anyone remotely interested in Scientology. Your eyes will pop out of your head.

Hubbard And The Occult
Article by Jon Atack regarding Layfayette Ron Hubbard's alleged interest in 'Black Magic', focusing on his supposed involvement with Cal Tech rocket scientist Jack Parsons, a disciple of British occultist Aleister Crowley.

The Church of Scientology vs The Net
Thoroughly engrossing page detailing activities of pro and con Scientology forces on the Internet.

Scientology
Official website of Scientology. Well designed site featuring select lectures by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard on 'RealAudio' and Virtual Reality 'tours' through prominent Church locations.

Hubbard and Black Magic
Incredible collection of quotes and clippings regarding Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard's supposed interest in 'black magic.' Be sure to follow ALL of the links at the end. Wild stuff.

Bare-Faced Messiah: The True Story of L. Ron Hubbard
We can't vouch for how 'true' this story is... but we can say it's INCREDIBLE reading. Provides an interesting counterpoint to Scientology's 'official' Hubbard site. Lots of Jack Parsons information, too.

The L. Ron Hubbard Site
Biographical site concerning Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. Our favorite part is the musical selections from Hubbard's album 'The Road to Freedom,' featuring the vocal talents of John Travolta and even Ron himself singing 'Thank You for Listening.'

FACTNet's Scientology Headlines
Keep up to date on Scientology here.

Operation Clambake
Best ANTI-Scientology site on the WWW. Controversial in the extreme.

Operation Clambake presents: Radio & TV Vault
Fantastic collection of Scientology related RealVideo and audio files. Of special interest is 'The Shrinking World of L. Ron Hubbard' (1968) and the animated 'Xenu Afterschool Special' which explains the way out sci-fi ideas behind Scientology. Also includes some fantastic soundfiles of King of All Media, Howard Stern ROASTING celeb Scientologists.

The Roots of Scientology
The Satanic ones acccording to these 4 former Co$ members.

Australian Critics of Scientology Resource Collection
"The more Scientology I know, the less I want to know. I find it an unbelievably stupid waste of human time and effort. This is information of no conceivable use other than learning it in order to stop the socially abusive organisation running on it."

Scientology Critic Convicted
This Wired News article (April 27, 2001), by Declan McCullagh, examines why a California jury convicted Keith Henson of "terrozing" Scientologists via Usenet postings.
