| The Gemstone File is one of the most notorious documents within the conspiriology community, a vast 'suppressed history' timeline detailing the shadowy truth about America's meteoric rise to global super-power status. A Rosetta Stone revealing the hidden connections between the elite rich and powerful. Or have we placed our faith in a fake? The 350-1000 handwritten pages of elusive conspiriologist Bruce Porter Roberts' samizdat now known as the Gemstone File first appeared in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1969. The Gemstone File alleges a global conspiracy of mindblowing proportions, involving the Mafia and corrupt politicians, brutal oil and drug cartels, rogue military operations, and more. Porter provocatively contends that Aristotle Onassis kidnapped defence industry billionare Howard Hughes and created a double, staged a successful American coup d'etat by killing John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy, and symbolically 'stole' Jackie Kennedy as part of a pact between the Kennedy clan and the Onassis oil magnates for world domination. Watergate was just an extension, the October Surprise wasn't about freeing American hostages held in Iran at all. If this sounds like a plot for a James Bond film, you're right: David Hatcher Childress has suggested that Diamonds Are Forever (1972) was based on Gemstone File-style events. And author Ian Fleming was a British intelligence operative. The Gemstone File (Illuminet Press, 1992) by the late Jim Keith was an important early analysis, which inspired colleagues Kenn Thomas and David Hatcher Childress to collate Inside The Gemstone File (Adventures Unlimited Press, 1999), a stunning collection of analyses and commentaries featuring Robin Ramsay and Jim Hougan. New evidence came to light via the investigations of academic and reporter Gerald A. Carroll's book Project Seek: Onassis, Kennedy, and The Gemstone Thesis (Bridger House Publications, 1994). Grand narratives and unified theories are now prevalent in conspiriology literature. The Gemstone File cast the die for Val Valerian, William Cooper, John Coleman, Jim Marrs, and David Icke, who have tried, in different ways and means, to interrogate the key para-political questions of our era. Chris Carter's shadowy elite in The X-Files television series, Grant Morrison's The Invisibles comicbook series, and Danny Casolaro's enigmatic Octopus cabal investigations are three key Gemstone File-influenced cultural references. Without it, Oliver Stone's films JFK (1991) and Nixon (1995) would also have lost much of their menacing edge. Along with the Torbitt Document ("Nomenclature of An Assassination Cabal"), which traced JFK's assassination to the Switzerland firm Permindex, the Gemstone File has both inspired counterparts (the Australia/New Zealand focused Opal File), and been compared to recently exposed military-industrial complex satires (Report From Iron Mountain). Despite this, the Gemstone File maintains an aura of muted credibility in a geopolitical era defined by the "twilight of sovereignty." The Gemstone File signifies that if global elites do subtly influence us, their malignant 'superiority complex' has resulted in stochastic disorder (George Gurdjieff's "Terror of the Situation"). All the Howard Hughes clones and shady oil conglomerate profits in the world are never enough to tame self-liberating Chaos. |
