genocide in east timor
by Matt Webster (mza@disinfo.net) - June. 02, 2001
East Timor, an island within the giant archipelago of Indonesia, and a former Portuguese colony, was invaded by Indonesian armed forces on December 7th,1975. Thousands of local and foreign eyewitness accounts tell of Indonesia's military committing genocide of the East Timorese.

Until very recently, many Western governments overlooked the plight of East Timor. East Timor's cause was given a big boost when the Norwegian Nobel committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to long-time East Timor activists Bishop Carlos Belo and Jose Ramos-Horta.

Discover for yourself East Timor's history and ongoing fight for freedom.
