| July 1, 2003 "The sovereignty of a number of Pacific Islands states was at risk because of economic collapse, corruption and lawlessness, [Australian] Prime Minister John Howard warned tonight. "Mr Howard's warning came as Australia prepared to intervene to restore law and order in the troubled Solomon Islands. "Australia also announced today it would more than double its aid contribution to the Solomons." |
