The Pirate Bay Taken Offline By Swedish Authorities
Following the earlier court defeat for Fredrik, Gottfrid and Peter and the pending civil action taken by several Hollywood studios, the Swedish authorities have now ordered The Pirate Bay to be disconnected from the Internet. The site’s bandwidth suppliers have been threatened with a large fine. The site is completely offline.
Today, Stockholm’s district court took action to completely remove The Pirate Bay from the Internet.
The court ordered the site’s major bandwidth supplier, Black Internet, to disconnect TPB from the Internet or face penalties of 500,000 kroner ($70,600). The ISP complied, saying that it had no choice but to uphold the law.
The censorship of The Pirate Bay will continue pending the outcome of a civil action taken by several entertainment companies including Disney, Universal, Warner, Columbia, Sony, NBC and Paramount.
Rick Falkvinge, leader of The Pirate Party said: “This is absolutely ridiculous. The Court seems to consider themselves above the Constitution,” while…

Cash For Kidney
For most of the thousands of Americans who need a new kidney, there are only two ways to go: persuade a friend or relative to donate, or get on the transplant waiting list.
Yet some New Yorkers with the right connections and a pile of cash appear to have explored a third option.
“I have met many, many people who have told me in confidence that they have bought a kidney. Prominent New Yorkers. And it happens right here in America,” said Robert Berman, founder and director of the Halachic Organ Donor Society.
Berman leads an organization that encourages Jews to become organ donors the legal way – without payment – but said he is often approached by people who need a kidney badly enough to consider paying for one.
Sometimes they even ask for his help finding a broker – a middleman who will arrange a transplant with a paid donor.

A Broken Heart Really Does Hurt, Scientists Claim
Researchers have found a genetic link between physical pain and social rejection, which means that breaking up with a partner really can be painful.
Psychologists at the University of California, Los Angeles say the human body has a gene which connects physical pain sensitivity with social pain sensitivity.
The findings back the common theory that rejection ‘hurts’ by showing that a gene regulating the body’s most potent painkillers — mu-opioids — is involved in socially painful experiences too.
Their study indicates that a variation in the mu-opioid receptor gene (OPRM1), often associated with physical pain, is related to how much social pain a person feels in response to social rejection.
People with a rare form of the gene are more sensitive to rejection and experience more brain evidence of distress in response to rejection than those with the more common form.
Fabricate Your Own DNA Evidence
DNA evidence has become the gold standard for criminal investigations, but researchers in Israel say that finding DNA at a crime scene may not be evidence of a crime, but rather the handiwork of a clever biology student.
In a paper published in Forensic Science International, Dan Frumkin, a private forensics researcher, claims that fabricating DNA evidence has become so easy that “[a]ny biology undergraduate could perform this.”
Frumkin outlines two methods for fabricating DNA evidence. The first requires access to a small sample of an individual’s DNA, such as a hair or a bit of saliva. The size of the sample is then increased through a common technique known as DNA amplification. Then the hopeful framer takes blood from a different individual, centrifuges it to remove the DNA-carrying white blood cells, and leaves only the red blood cells, which contain no DNA. The person then adds the amplified DNA to the…
Before You Assume Cops Have The Most Dangerous Job …
CNN.COM – Nationwide, most employees have a miniscule chance of being killed at work. There were just four fatal occupational injuries per 100,000 workers in the United States in 2005, according to preliminary data from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.
That, of course, is just the average. For some workers — soldiers in combat, for example — every day is a life-threatening one. But on the domestic front, the most dangerous jobs are less obvious.
Statistically speaking, farmers — with a fatality rate of 41.1 — are more than twice as likely to die on the job than police officers (18.2) and nearly four times more likely to be killed at work than firefighters (11.5).
Pirate Bay Trial Ends; Verdict Due April 17
STOCKHOLM — The Pirate Bay trial wrapped up here Tuesday amid a media circus as attorneys for the four accused founders of the world’s most notorious BitTorrent tracker proclaimed their clients’ innocence to charges of facilitating copyright infringement.
One of the attorneys declared the 2-week trial a mockery.
“These kinds of abstract case are not supposed to be brought to the court at all,” attorney Per E. Samuelson said during his argument. “The prosecutor has not managed to keep calm in light of the enormous pressure and lobbying from record and film companies.”
Scandinavian television teams and journalists descended upon this small courtroom to see the final hours of a case generating international headlines. The three younger of the four defendants are by now media celebrities in their own right and seemed at ease with the frantic attention they provoked.
The Pirate Bay Operators Face Prison Time
Prosecutors in the Pirate Bay trial have finished their closing arguments and requested jail terms of a year apiece for the four men running the torrent search site.
In his closing arguments prosecutor Håkan Roswall asked the court to sentence the four defendants to one year jail terms, half the maximum sentence for breaking copyright law. He argued that although the site did not contain pirated material it was nevertheless a facilitator to piracy.

“A person who is holding someone’s coat while they assault someone else is complicit in the crime,” he said, according to Swedish paper The Local.
