An Anti-War Challenge to Obama in 2012: The Case for Alan Grayson

Posted by Liam McGonagle on December 30, 2010

Alan GraysonI will admit to total ignorance of Alan Grayson’s merits, but I’d love to hear input from Disinformation’s readers about any viable alternative candidate for the 2012 nomination.  As a starting point, this bit from Mark Pinsky at Politics Daily:

Current Beltway consensus holds that the 2012 race, like 2010, will be a referendum on the economy. But what if, instead, the war in Afghanistan, which Barack Obama has embraced, deteriorates dramatically, requiring a delay in the scheduled troop withdrawal or, worse, forces another escalation? Might Democratic anti-war sentiment — until now a sleeper issue — turn rebellious?

Already, national polls show a plurality (Pew) or a majority (Quinnipiac) opposed to remaining in Afghanistan, with the margins of opposition rising. A Washington Post/ABC News poll conducted Dec. 9-12 found that 60 percent of Americans believe that, “considering the costs to the United States versus the benefits to the United States,” the war…

Grayson Introduces ‘Business Should Mind Its Own Business Act’ In Congress

Posted by JacobSloan on January 27, 2010

Last week the Supreme Court issued a landmark decision overturning restrictions on corporations’ political activity.

The Consumerist reports that, in response, cranky rogue Florida congressman Alan Grayson has introduced a bill before Congress called the “Business Should Mind Its Own Business Act.” The BSMOBA would tax corporate political contributions and spendings on political ads at a rate of 500%.

I’m not sure what the odds are of this getting any traction, but one can always dream.

Congressmen Alan Grayson tells Dick Cheney to ‘STFU!’

Posted by ralph on December 10, 2009

This guy may be the only Democrat in Congress who isn’t afraid of Republicans… RAW Story reports:

Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL), the congressman who gained nationwide fame after declaring that the Republican plan for health care amounts to hoping that people “die quickly,” has a few choice words — or, rather, one choice acronym — for former Vice President Dick Cheney: “STFU.”

For those not familiar with the expression, that’s Internet parlance for “shut the fuck up.”

Grayson made the comment during an interview on MSNBC’s Hardball Wednesday night. Host Chris Matthews had asked the Florida congressman about Cheney’s comments on Fox News Tuesday, in which the former VP called Obama a “radical” and said the president’s decision to bring accused 9/11 plotters to Manhattan to face trial was “a huge mistake.”

“On the Internet there’s an acronym that’s used to apply to situations like this. It’s called ‘STFU,’” Grayson told Matthews. “I don’t think I can say that on the air, but I think you know what that means.”
