WikiLeaks Website Kicked Off Amazon’s Servers

Amazon Kicks Off WikiLeaksPeter Svensson reports on the AP Via MSNBC:

NEW YORK — Amazon.com Inc. forced WikiLeaks to stop using the U.S. company’s computers to distribute embarrassing State Department communications and other documents, WikiLeaks said Wednesday. The ouster came after congressional staff questioned Amazon about its relationship with WikiLeaks, said Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent from Connecticut.

WikiLeaks confirmed it hours after The Associated Press reported that Amazon’s servers had stopped hosting WikiLeaks’ site. The site was unavailable for several hours before it moved back to its previous Swedish host, Bahnhof AB.

WikiLeaks released a trove of sensitive diplomatic documents on Sunday. Just before the release, its website came under an Internet-based attack that made it unavailable for hours at a time. But that move exposed WikiLeaks to legal and political pressure.

As some Republicans in Congress continue to criticize the administration for its decision to read Miranda rights to alleged attempted terorrist Faisal Shahzad, independent Sen. Joe Lieberman is proposing a plan to avoid reading those rights to suspects like Shahzad.

The Connecticut senator, who typically votes with Democrats but is hawkish on national security issues, wants to see a new law that would strip people like Shahzad of their citizenship and, subsequently, their Miranda rights.

Lieberman is planning to introduce a bill that would allow the government to revoke the citizenship of an American who joins a foreign terrorist organization, the Hill reports. The proposed legislation would amend current law that strips a person’s citizenship if they fight with a foreign army.

The Hill reports:

“I would rather see all healthcare reform die than cave to the demands of my constituents,” says the sock version of Lieberman.

He then demands to be named “senator for life” and that his name be inserted into the Pledge of Allegiance in exchange for his healthcare vote.

After the Democrats give into his demands, they ask if Lieberman will vote for the bill.

“Definitely unless I decide not to, in which case you’re kind of screwed all over again, right? That’s what’s going to happen,” he replies.
