European criticism of the World Health Organization’s handling of the H1N1 pandemic intensified Friday with the release of two reports that accused the agency of exaggerating the threat posed by the virus and failing to disclose possible influence by the pharmaceutical industry on its recommendations for how countries should respond.

The WHO’s response caused widespread, unnecessary fear and prompted countries around the world to waste millions of dollars, according to one report.

At the same time, the Geneva-based arm of the United Nations relied on advice from experts with ties to drug makers in developing the guidelines it used to encourage countries to stockpile millions of doses of antiviral medications, according to the second report.

The reports outlined the drumbeat of criticism that has arisen, primarily in Europe, of how the world’s leading health organization responded to the first influenza pandemic in more than four decades.

So then, why is President Obama going back on his word and drilling holes in the earth?

The Interior Department under Barack Obama offered for sale more acres of dry-land drilling on public lands than the Bush Administration had at the same point in 2008.

An economy in a state of rigor mortis doesn’t need oil to lubricate an engine that blew up on October 29, 2008, and our way of life won’t come back if the oil industry creates a handful of jobs or we reduce our dependence on foreign oil.

Drill, Drill, Drill didn’t make environmental sense in 1973 or 2008

In 1973, America’s solution to the Arab oil embargo and long gas lines wasn’t mass transit, high mileage cars or alternative energy, it was the 800 mile Trans-Alaska Pipeline through some of the most pristine country in Alaska.

Then in 2008, in response to $5.00/gallon gasoline, Americans agreed to give up their last Arctic Wilderness and do more offshore drilling.

Despite the fact that the oil companies and the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), an independent statistical agency within the Department of Energy, estimated that new oil from ANWR would have only a negligible impact on the world price of oil. The EIA projection for oil production in the ANWR would amount to 0.4 to 1.2 percent of total world oil consumption in 2030, assuming the U.S. congress approved legislation to drill, back in 2008.

Drill, Drill, Drill hasn’t made economic sense for at least the last 20 years!

Matt Simmons an investment banker, considered to be a mover and shaker in the oil industry thinks he, “spent his career in the wrong kind of barrels.”

It will take 16 trillion dollars to replace the production we now have on line and add to it by 2030.  Oil or another form of energy is an indispensable requisite for life as we know it.

But over the past 20 years, oil has been a terrible investment.  A 15% return on investment (ROI) is what one expects to get from a building.  Oil’s ROI has largely been less than 15%.  Scotch returns 50% ROI, wine returns 15%.

Why has oil given such a lousy return?

Because spot energy pricing, where oil is bought and sold like a commodity has destroyed long term value for the oil industry.  Spot markets make all contracts short term, so no one is looking out for the future.

Why has oil been a “terrible investment”?

Inexplicably, the industry picks the most expensive places on the earth to drill for oil.

• Chevron spent $2.7 billion over 10 years on just the first phase of a deep-water oil project in the Gulf. Other sub-salt discoveries involve drilling more than 30,000 feet, some of the most expensive wells ever drilled.

On January 7, 2010, the Wall Street Journal published, “Cramped on Land, Big Oil Bets at Sea”

“Big Oil never wanted to be here, in 4,300 feet of water far out in the Gulf of Mexico, drilling through nearly five miles of rock. It is an expensive way to look for oil.”

Drill, Drill, Drill, Environmental damage is the answer

The Environmental damage and pollution to the earth from the role petroleum products play in modern society; the intentional and accidental releases into the environment, was the Goal, Not The Unintended Consequence of the Petroleum Industry.

The Powers That Be (TPTB), are in a metaphysical struggle with Mother-Earth (Gaea) and created the middle class afflicted with “The Narcissism Epidemic: Living in the Age of Entitlement” (The American Dream) for the last 75 years, in order to weaken the planet with environmental damage and pollution. Until October 2008, the huddled “middle class” masses should have been thanking John D. Rockefeller and the Petroleum industry for letting former serfs and slaves drive cars, trucks, motorcycles and RVs to the mall so they could consume useless toxic products from the petroleum industry. But at the same time they should have been blaming them for, putting the planet, according to a massive United Nations report the GEO4, at the “unknown points of no return”

TPTB believed if they gave up their real wealth: Raw materials, commodities, copper, iron ore, petroleum, lead, copper, silver and gold in exchange for $500 trillion of the fiat currency (Monopoly money) they created out of thin air so the middle class could live the American Dream, a nightmare for Gaea, they would attain immortality in a period known as the New World Order (Millennium).

The New Heavens and the New Earth is the eternal destination and a thousand years of peace and plenty and paradise on Earth for The House of Rothschild, Global elite, Illuminati, Bilderbergers, CFR and the other secret societies (righteous people).

On October 29, 2008, TPTB determined their plan did not succeed: They were unable to defeat Gaea.

Gehenna and the abyss is the eternal destination and a thousand years of punishment for The House of Rothschild, Global elite, Illuminati, Bilderbergers, CFR and the other secret societies (wicked people).

TPTB did not wish to spend eternity in Hell, so between October of 2008 and October 2009, they threatened Gaea with World War III. “Escalation Scenarios: The Third World War and Its Aftermath” (Pakalert) and Dr. Strangelove articles were everywhere in the media.

The Book of Revelation describes the final battle with Gaea and there is no Nuclear World War III at Armageddon in the valley of Megiddo.

Therefore, the escalation scenarios were a bluff (we hope).

Rev 9:16 describes a hand-to-hand combat when the world ends. A Nuclear Armageddon would make too much of the planet uninhabitable for the One World governors and the 500 million “useful eaters” they need for slaves when they take over the world.

Google Trends confirmed the TPTB thought the bluff was successful when the Nuclear War headlines were replaced with the Swine Flu.

Bluff Unsuccessful, Perpetual Check

As of November 10, 2010 swine flu articles were replaced with headlines about drilling holes in the earth indicating the bluff – the threat of a nuclear war failed.

In a futile attempt to avoid going to Hell, TPTB are drilling holes in the earth hoping to find a heretofore undiscovered vulnerability in the earth’s crust:

Interior secretary Salazar announced 38 lease sales for oil and gas on public lands and 75 days later President Obama signed an executive order to loan two billion dollars of our “tax payers dollars” to a Brazilian Oil Exploration Company to drill for oil off the coast of Brazil.

This is a strategy known in Chess as “perpetual check”  – a sequence of checks from which the opponent (Gaea) can escape, used by a player (TPTB) with a worse position in order not to lose the game.

The Fateful Geological Prize Called Haiti – Check!

F. William Engdahl, authority on the New World Order and most of the scholars, pundits and thinkers of our time have a strongly held belief that everything wrong in the world is because someone is, greedy, corrupt or just “power hungry.”

F.W.  and the “experts” believe we sent 20,000 US troops to Haiti on the pretext of humanitarian aid so  “Washington and private business interests tied to it could get a geopolitical prize of the first order.”

F.W.  writes prolifically about the New World Order at the Center for Global Research and would probably admit the Federal Reserve fiscal policy is as much about power as about money but without a metaphysical perspective, he would not agree the environmental damage and pollution was the goal of our consumer society.

“The Fateful Geological Prize Called Haiti” is his latest article that erroneously asserts that the real reason for the US military occupation of Haiti is so we can “carve up of the vast wealth of the nation.”

Haitian scholar Dr. Georges Michel, wrote that the U.S. has known about the vast oil and natural gas reserves in Haiti since 1908.

So why are we carving up Haiti now?

A clue to this enigma can be found in “The Fateful Geological Prize Called Haiti”:

“The vast oil reserves of the Persian Gulf and of the region from the Red Sea into the Gulf of Aden are at a similar convergence zone of large tectonic plates, as are such oil-rich zones as Indonesia and the waters off the coast of California.

F.W. misses the significance of “determining as precisely as possible the relation between tectonic plates” but the geologists do not:

“The Jan. 12 earthquake was on a fault line that passes near potential gas reserves, said Stephen Pierce, a geologist who worked in the region for 30 years. The quake may have cracked rock formations along the fault, allowing gas or oil to temporarily seep toward the surface, he said yesterday in a telephone interview.

A geologist, callous as it may seem, tracing that fault zone from Port-au-Prince to the border looking for gas and oil seeps, may find a structure that hasn’t been drilled,” said Pierce, exploration manager at Zion Oil & Gas Inc.”

The earthquake in Haiti may have exposed vulnerability (a structure that hasn’t been drilled) in the earth’s crust and TPTB are rushing to take military advantage of their opponent. [2]

Crusextraction of the Earth, Response: Earthquakes And Tsunamis

In 2005, world oil-production alone (not including natural-gas) was an incomprehensible 80 – 100 million barrels of oil per day.

USGS coastal geologists understand these factors cannot be ignored as far as influencing earth crust stresses and confirm the earth’s response to extracting by force 3,360,000,000 – 4,200,000,000 gallons of the planets vital fluids every single day: Earthquakes and tsunamis.

While disagreement abounds on this topic, scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) say that oil production at plate boundaries where hard, rocky slabs slide against each other to releases tremendous amounts of energy and could be the cause for the 2004 quake that triggered a deadly tsunami in Sumatra.

“Here’s how it works: With high-tech equipment, oil companies pinpoint oil-rich areas and use large drills to puncture the surface below the sea, sometimes as deep as 10,000 feet. As this pricey fluid gets sucked from the sediment pores, the surrounding rocks shift positions to fill in the newly vacated spaces. At a large scale, for example the volume displaced when millions of barrels of oil are produced, the land movement can actually cause a mini-seismic earthquake, said Robert Morton, a USGS coastal geologist.

During these various stages the globe of the earth is gradually being depressurized and cooled internally, causing contraction for both of these reasons. When objects cool down, they automatically shrink/contract in size. If you let high-pressure air or gas out of a cylinder, it forms ice around the outlet, and cools the entire cylinder. If you let some of the air out of a football, or basketball, the ball shrinks and goes badly out of shape.”

The Crusextraction

During the various stages of the energy extraction process, the globe of the earth suffers limitless pain as the area where the drilling occurs. It is gradually being depressurized and cooled internally, causing cycles of constriction, joint-rending cramps, intermittent partial asphyxiation and searing pain as they use large drills to puncture pericardium and into the heart, sometimes as deep as 10,000 feet.

As the serum gets sucked from the sediment pores, the surrounding rocks shift positions to fill the newly vacated spaces causing unbearable agony as the earth automatically contracts in size and goes badly out of shape resulting in a deep crushing pain.

“I Thirst.” “My strength is dried up like a potsherd; my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.”(Psalm 22:15)

Then another agony begins when millions of barrels of vital bodily fluids are produced.  This causes deep, crushing pain as the sac surrounding the bowels of the earth slowly fill with hydrocarbon soil and began to compress the tectonic plates causing (shock) mini-seismic earthquakes.

“I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint, my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.” Psalm 22:14

When the loss of fluids reaches a critical level, the earth is struggling to pump heavy, thick, sluggish serum that is not only pressurized, but is also hot. As it is extracted, the tortured lungs of the earth are suffocating and are making a frantic effort to inhale small gulps of air.

The pressure gradually decreases, making it less profitable to take the remaining serum, but to make doubly sure of a mortal wound, the legionnaire uses external-energy to pierce and inject cold water into the sac surrounding the heart.

“And immediately there came out blood and water.” John 19:34

As the sac fills with cold water, the last remaining serum floats up on top.

This escape of watery fluid from the sac surrounding the heart and the wound through the sac surrounding the interior of the heart causes painful Tsunamis. This is rather conclusive evidence that the earth was tormented but not “deceased”.

Conclusion

There are only three outcomes to this galactic metaphysical struggle that goes back, at least, to the Dark Ages: (The Question of Questions)

1. Gaea determines man’s future.
2. TPTB determine man’s future in a new World Order where they attain immortality and rid the planet of all but 500 million useful eaters.
3. TPTP are defeated (As I claim they were October 2008) and have three choices:
   1. The dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan (TPTB) can accept defeat and agree to be tossed into the Abyss, be locked up for a 1000 years and then thrown into the Lake of Fire.
   2. Make good on a threat of total world annihilation (i.e. Nagasaki and Hiroshima) and spend a 1000 years in the 700-acre, secret subterranean city, deep within the bedrock underneath Central Park in Manhattan (Manhattan Project). This assumes Gaea allows them to launch WWIII. [4]
   3. Continue to drill holes in the earth (Perpetual Check) prolonging the inevitable looking for a heretofore-undiscovered vulnerability in the Earth’s crust.

I know not what course others may take, but as for me I hope the TPTB accept defeat and are thrown into the Lake of Fire.

Drilling holes in the earth’s crust for oil isn’t the only strategy for weakening the earth.

The U.S. Department of Energy has reported that just one geothermal location out of the hundreds that have been identified, is so powerful it has the potential to produce 50,000 times the known oil and gas reserves in the world.

The Naval Air Weapons Station, China Lake, sits on top of the Coso Hot Springs, one of the hottest land masses in the United States and could be vulnerability in the Earth.

To bring heat up to the surface they drill a hole deep into the Earth, tapping the area beneath the Earth’s surface that produces heat over 400 degrees. Next, they inject water into the hole. The water instantly boils and begins to produce steam that rises out of the hole.

From 1900 to 1949 it averaged three major quakes per decade. From 1949 the increase became awesome with 9 killer quakes in the 1950’s; 13 in the 60’s; 56 in the 1970’s and an amazing 74 major quakes in the 1980’s. The CDC is engaged in a very clever, statistically devious spin campaign, and nearly every journalist in the mainstream media has fallen for its ploy. No one has yet reported what I’m about to reveal here.

It all started with the CDC’s recent release of new statistics about swine flu fatalities, infection rates and vaccination rates. According to the CDC:

• 61 million Americans were vaccinated against swine flu (about 20% of the U.S. population). The CDC calls this a “success” even though it means 4 out of 5 people rejected the vaccines.

• 55 million people “became ill” from swine flu infections.

• 246,000 Americans were hospitalized due to swine flu infections.

• 11,160 Americans died from the swine flu.

Base on these statistics, the CDC is now desperately urging people to get vaccinated because they claim the pandemic might come back and vaccines are the best defense.

But here’s the part you’re NOT being told.

The CDC statistics lie by omission. They do not reveal the single most important piece of information about H1N1 vaccines: How many of the people who died from the swine flu had already been vaccinated?

The CDC is intentionally not tracking how many of the dead were previously vaccinated. They want you (and mainstream media journalists) to mistakenly believe that ZERO deaths occurred in those who were vaccinated. But this is blatantly false. Being vaccinated against H1N1 swine flu offers absolutely no reduction in mortality from swine flu infections.

And that means roughly 20% of the 11,160 Americans who died from the swine flu were probably already vaccinated against swine flu. That comes to around 2,200 deaths in people who were vaccinated!

The Council of Europe will launch a probe into pharmaceutical companies after reports that vaccine manufacturers pressured the World Health Organization into declaring swine flu pandemic seeking increase in profits.

It was supposed to be a deadly pandemic, but is so far is nothing more than a serious cold.

And it has left a lasting headache as a debate rages over whether pharmaceutical companies deliberately misled governments about the seriousness of swine flu to make them stockpile vaccines.

The legal standards organization, the Council of Europe, will gather the arguments.

“Britain has spent a fortune on preparations,” says Paul Flynn, Vice Chairman at the Council of Europe Health Committee. “We have caused a great deal of stress to the population, people are very anxious about it, and we’ve distorted the priorities of our health service. I believe when we have a thorough investigation, and we look at this, we’ll discover that’s the story – the world has been subjected to a stunt for the own greedy interests of the pharmaceutical companies.”

European countries bought billions of dollars worth of vaccine from pharmaceutical companies including Baxter, GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi-Pasteur. Some of the contracts included a clause where governments could get out of buying the drugs if they were no longer needed. But some, notably ones with GlaxoSmithKline, did not.

“We continue to support governments in managing the H1N1 influenza pandemic. This includes ongoing discussions about existing orders for our pandemic vaccines,” reads the officials statement from the company.

Governments all over Europe are now saddled with billions of dollars worth of unnecessary swine flu vaccine. They are trying to sell it, but supply now far exceeds demand. So because governments wanted to be seen to be acting decisively, the European taxpayers have found themselves seriously out of pocket.

Health expert Gawain Towler says pharmas will be pharmas, and it’s governments who should have been less gullible…

The farms that supply eggs for the H1N1 vaccine are top secret — so secret that even the communities in which they are located don’t know about them. WSJ’s Jeanne Whalen reports from Pennsylvania Dutch Country.

Reports circulating in the Kremlin today are stating that a US government contracted airplane piloted by American CIA agents and carrying a cargo of a ‘mutated’ swine flu virus intended for aerial spraying was shot down [photo top left] at China’s Shanghai Pudong airport by a saboteur team of what are believed to be Israeli Mossad soldiers seeking to prevent an American attack upon one of their Central Asian bases located in the Central Asian Nation of Kyrgyzstan.

According to Chinese media reports on this incident the stricken Zimbabwean MD-ll plane, owned by the CIA linked Avient Aviation company operated by a former British military officer named Andrew Smith and registered in the UK, killed 3 American CIA agents and injured 4 other personal who are reported to be from United States, Indonesia, Belgium and Zimbabwe.

Most interesting to note in these reports on the victims of this plane shootdown is that the Indonesian man currently being treated for his injuries has ‘confessed’ to Chinese secret police forces that he is a technician employed by the United States Navy at their mysterious Naval Medical Research Unit No. 2 (NAMRU-2) located in Indonesia that Indonesian Defense Minister Juwono Sudarsono had previously called for the closing of “because its operations were too secretive and were incompatible with Indonesia’s security interests.”

Adrian Gibbs, the virologist who said in May that swine flu may have escaped from a laboratory, published his findings today, renewing discussion about the origins of the pandemic virus.

The new H1N1 strain, which was discovered in Mexico and the U.S. in April, may be the product of three strains from three continents that swapped genes in a lab or a vaccine-making plant, Gibbs, and fellow Australian scientists wrote in Virology Journal. The authors analyzed the genetic makeup of the virus and found its origin could be more simply explained by human involvement than a coincidence of nature.

Their study, published in a free, online journal reviewed by other scientists, follows debate among researchers six months ago, when Gibbs asked the World Health Organization to consider the hypothesis. After reviewing Gibbs’ initial three-page paper, WHO and other organizations concluded the pandemic strain was a naturally occurring virus and not laboratory-derived.

“It is important that the source of the new virus be found if we wish to avoid future pandemics rather than just trying to minimize the consequences after they have emerged,” Gibbs and colleagues John Armstrong and Jean Downie said in today’s eight-page study.

More than half of Britons being offered vaccination against pandemic H1N1 flu are turning it down because they fear side-effects or think the virus is too mild to bother, a survey of doctors showed on Wednesday.

Many of the 107 family doctors polled by Britain’s Pulse magazine said there was widespread resistance from patients and on average only 46 percent of those offered the vaccination agree to have it.

Doctors reported particular difficulties in persuading pregnant women to be vaccinated against the virus, according to Pulse, a trade newspaper for doctors.

“In all the pregnant women we’ve offered it to, I think only about one in 20 has agreed,” Dr Chris Udenze, a family doctor based in Nottingham, central England, said in the survey.

Skepticism has been growing in Britain and other European countries about health authorities’ handling of the H1N1 pandemic because the number of people infected has been lower than originally feared…

While America is still in the grips of swine flu mania, let me use this opportunity to clear up a few things about my beliefs concerning the flu shot, vaccines, and health in general. I do this because there is obviously a lot of curiosity about this subject of vaccines — it comes up in every interview I do these days, and I’ve been finding that people, including doctors, are privately expressing a skepticism that is still not very prevalent in public. I feel like I’ve become a confessor for people who want someone to be raising questions about vaccines.

But I don’t want the job. I agree with my critics who say there are far more qualified people than me — its just that mainstream media rarely interviews doctors and scientists who present an alternative point of view. There is a movement to stop people from asking any questions about vaccines — they’re a miracle, that’s it, debate over. I don’t think its that simple, and neither do millions of other people. The British Medical Journal from August 25 says half the doctors and medical workers in the U.K. are not taking the flu shot — are they all crazy too? Sixty-five percent of French people don’t want it. Maybe its not as simple as the medical establishment wants to paint it.

Vaccination is a nuanced subject, and I’ve never said all vaccines in all situations are bad. The point I am representing is: Is getting frequent vaccinations for any and all viruses consequence-free? I feel its unnecessary and counterproductive to try and silence people with condescension. Michael Shermer wrote me an open letter and felt I needed to be told that “vaccinations work by tricking the body’s immune system into thinking that it has already had the disease for which the vaccination was given.” Thanks, Doc, I thought there might be a little man inside the needle. That had occurred during Spain’s recent national debate on abortion and drew a rebuke from Cardinal Franc Rodé, prefect for the Vatican’s Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, who, we learned, had sent a letter to her abbess demanding that Sister Forcades conform to Church doctrine.

In our view, the fact that Sister Forcades held a pro-choice position compromised the trust we could place in her judgment of other matters — including what she had to say about swine flu. She is author of The Crimes of the Great Pharmaceutical Companies, a book that denounces the political and economic power acquired by the drug corporations. Some of New York’s biggest companies, including Wall Street giants Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, received doses of swine flu vaccine for at-risk employees, drawing criticism that the hard-to-find vaccine is going first to the privileged.

Hospitals, universities and the Federal Reserve Bank also got doses of the vaccine for employees who need it the most, such as pregnant women or chronically ill workers, according to the city’s health department.

In order to receive the vaccine, companies had to have their own medical staff. Distributing large doses of the vaccine to such businesses is “a great avenue for vaccinating people at risk,” said Jessica Scaperotti, spokeswoman for the city Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.

But critics said Wall Street firms should not have access to the vaccine before less wealthy Americans. “Vaccines should go to people who need them most, not people who happen to work on Wall Street,” Democratic Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut said Thursday.

“Wall Street banks have already taken so much from us. They’ve taken trillions of our tax dollars. I spent most of this past spring and summer rolling my eyes every time I heard a news story about the swine flu. Almost every day local reporters got hysterical about 5 or 10 or 20 confirmed cases. Entire schools closed in response to a handful of kids with fevers, and as if there were no war in Afghanistan, no economic crisis, and no other epidemics claiming ten times as many lives, newscasters talked about H1N1 (the proper name for swine flu) for hours.

I have a degree in public health and my work focuses on preventing rape and other acts of violence and supporting survivors in healing from abuse. When I see all the attention swine flu is getting, I’m jealous. Other than intermittent news stories about sex offenders on the loose or why women who accuse professional athletes of rape are lying, sexual violence rarely gets any widespread coverage. Certainly no state of emergency declared by the President of the United States.

Now, I don’t want to diminish the grief of those who have lost loved ones to H1N1. I don’t even want to question the scientific validity of the Center for Disease Control’s decision to declare it a pandemic. But the fact remains that the impact of H1N1 is far less than that of other public health crises that receive a fraction of the attention and resources. The CDC reported just over 43,000 cases of H1N1 between April and July of this year and estimates that it will affect a million people, or 0.3% of the total population of the United States. Compare this to the 2.5% of women and 0.9% of men who reported being raped or sexually assaulted in the past year. The most recent statistics about rape available from the CDC are from last year. Swine flu? Last week.

what do you all think of this? I think these pages need to be preserved before they get spread far enough to be removed from view. Briefly, I will tell you how I came across this information, and some other startling revelations I stumbled onto afterwards. KIEV — Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko on Friday ordered a three-week closure of Ukraine’s schools and cinemas in the toughest measures adopted yet to combat the swine flu virus in Europe.

“From today, all the school establishments in Ukraine — be they private or public — will be put on three weeks of holiday,” she told her cabinet in comments carried on Ukrainian television.

Tymoshenko said the government would also be banning “all public gatherings, every concert and every cinema showing for three weeks.” The government will also introduce “special regimes” to limit the movement of Ukraine’s citizens from one region to another for non-urgent purposes, she said. Ukraine has borders with four EU countries.

The prime minister’s tough actions came as Ukraine confirmed its first deaths from the A(H1N1) virus, amid a growing panic over several dozen unexplained deaths in the west of the country.

Four people in Ukraine are now confirmed to have died from the virus, the secretary of the country’s national security council Raisa Bogatyriova said, according to the Ukrainian presidency. In the Ternopil region alone in western Ukraine, 30 people have died of unexplained causes in the last days, health ministry spokeswoman Lyudmila Gordon told reporters.

Tymoshenko also threatened to revoke the licenses of pharmacies that failed to stock the appropriate level of anti-flu medicine and masks. “We can say today that Ukraine has entered into the zone of the swine flu epidemic,” Health Minister Vassyl Kniazevich said.

In what is being seen as the first of many such actions to come, nine individuals have filed formal charges claiming that the H1N1 campaign is a deliberate attempt to poison the French population.

These charges, which were filed yesterday, could not come at a more inopportune moment for the government and health specialists. The vaccination campaign got underway last Tuesday in a climate of national skepticism as to the vaccine’s safety and efficiency, and this news will surely boost the morale of the increasing number of anti-vaccine lobbyists who are beginning to organize their resistance to any attempt to vaccinate the population against H1N1.

Nine inhabitants of the Isére region of France are cited as joint plaintiffs in the case, including a health sector worker, a teacher and a radio talk show host. They met each other at various public meetings held to denounce the vaccine’s alleged health risks.

The charges take the form of a ‘plainte contre X’ which means that the perpetrator of an alleged crime or felony is not known, or is not named, in the charge sheet. This is a commonly used manner of filing complaints in France, particularly where the charges relate to supposed government implication in alleged breaches of the law. In cases where those trials proceed after prior examination of the facts, the specific persons or organizations concerned are designated and charged as the trial proceeds.

Jean-Pierre Joseph, the plaintiffs’ lawyer, describes the vaccination campaign as “A veritable attempt to poison.” He confirmed that the charges were filed at the High Court in Grenoble before the court’s senior examining magistrate. He said other court cases involving other plaintiffs would begin soon

The various charges filed included one of “Attempting to administer substances…of a nature which could result in death.”

“The aim is to put a stop to what we consider to be an act of poisoning,” according to Joseph. “The interest of this action is that people in France now have a means by which to express their concern as citizens by saying publicly “We are aware that the vaccination campaign is a swindle.”

Similar court actions are planned in other areas of the Isére, as well as in Paris, Pau and Nantes, and several hundred vaccine opponents are beginning to organize themselves on the internet with a view to filing class action charges.

The government and health authorities are currently battling to persuade people to get vaccinated against increasingly difficult odds. Opposition to the campaign has been increasing steadily, and various polls taken over the last few days put the figure for those who do not intend to get vaccinated as high as 70 percent.

Their task is being made even more arduous by the fact that while authorities believe on the one hand that vaccination is essential despite negative public reaction, the French have traditionally proved to be very quick to condemn and file charges in cases where not enough was said to be done to prevent other medical mishaps such as the Mad Cow outbreak and an AIDS contamination case, in which several people died and many more became HIV positive after receiving AIDS-contaminated blood transfusions in hospitals.

That signifies that the authorities have very little room to maneuver and are more or less obliged to continue the campaign in order to avoid similar charges should they decide or be forced to abandon the campaign and high numbers of people die as a result of not being vaccinated.

We’ve been told day after day that millions of Americans are going to be battered by the H1N1 virus this flu season — and now the germ is spreading so fast that even the nation’s top health officials have quit keeping track of the number of cases.

For a diabolical few, all of this raises the question: Who would ever know if you faked it?

After all, government officials — and even the president himself — have admonished us to stay home if we’re sick.

Companies and campuses across the country have been told to prepare for more sick days than usual; in fact, one flu-fearing county in Arizona has even told employees that they must stay home if they have a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher, or they risk being fired.

And to make matters especially convenient for potential malingerers, we’ve been told to avoid the doctor’s office and emergency room if possible, to keep health workers from being overwhelmed.

Bird flu may be a sexually transmitted infection — at least in ducks. That’s the suggestion of an analysis of flu prevalence and mating behaviour that also proposes an easy way to spot duck populations most at risk of harbouring avian flu.

Surprisingly, the more rampant the sex a particular duck species indulges in, the lower the chance of spreading the virus. It’s all to do with penis size and the complexity of the females’ vagina.

Lethal strains of avian flu virus can evolve from harmless versions and then jump to other species, so it is important to also monitor less dangerous strains in wild birds. Ducks are the main wild hosts of bird flu, but surveillance is difficult without easy markers of infection risk.

Now Gergely Hegyi at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary, and colleagues think they may have found just such a marker: the “covert” wing patches that ducks display during mating. This finding builds on the previous work by the team, in which they found that species with large penises tend to have smaller wing patches, which are also more likely to be a single colour.
